What fun car for £5K?

Great suggestions :)

I'm 6'4" would I fit in an MX-5? Supercharger would be an idea as I love forced induction.

DC2 sounds interesting. I've only been taken for a spin in one but it was nippy and obvisouly handled well.

I'll check out the MK Indy. Not one I've heard of before.

Not sure about the Clio. Great little cars but I can't see me driving one.

The Supra and Soarer are nice but not focused on handling. Again the Vette falls into this area to.

Insurance won't be an issue but I'd like to keep running costs down.

I'm 6'2 and built fairly well and I struggle in an MX5. You'd best go sit in one before you go too much further down that line! :)

you can probably mod one to the point where you'll fit - sports seats on custom rails and you'll be fine but otherwise you might struggle...

that pretty much rules out my second suggestion which would have been a rx-7 fd. You might even struggle in a supra as they are pretty small inside.

I've been in a Supra before and can't remember it being a problem however I'm not sure it's what I'm after. I'd like something more focused on handling like the MX-5 or DC2 etc.

5k will get you a nice RX8, value for money wise just about unbeatable, just costs a bit to run thats all :p

It wouldn't get used every day and I'd estimate maybe 3-5 track days a year plus maybe around 3K miles.

I'll be using the GSXR more this year too so that will limit it's use.

I thought that may be the case.

I think it very much depends on how long your legs are relative to your body. I'm 6ft and I don't have the seat all the way back.

RG-Tom is a fair bit taller than me (6ft4? can't remember) and he is fine in an mx-5 too (apart from the mk-3 with the folding hard top IIRC?).

i'm 6'4 and bordering on too "well built", and im fine in the mk2 and 2.5. Its the mk3 soft top i dont fit in, there is a support beam right where my head sits :)

I think we're a similar size then. Could you point me towards an info on the MX-5 and if possible any build logs covering it being supercharged.

I quite like the technical aspect of building something like this as I had a lot of fun building the Turbo engine for the Astra.

I'm 6'3" and well built and fit into my clio fine, but don't fit in my mates mk 2.5 MX5. But best way find out is to try.

However, idstill say get an MK Indy, possibly with a bike engine :)

Got both a turbocharged mx5 and an rx8 in our household (neither of them mine :( ) and had them for a long time. Go mx5 is my advice or go for something else, don't bother with the rx8.

I wouldn't write that off. Rob-RX7 is a lad i know on OcUK and I drove his RX-7 a few times very comfortably. I'm 6'4".

I'd also lay that car down as a good choice for a fun car. It's a ton of fun and pretty well regarded as an all time favourite.

However, gas costs a lot and these days it's hard to drive a stupidly fast car when you've got a GATSO and Average Time CCTV everywhere.
