They seem to be very expensive, If you split the total costs out over 2 years they tend to work out a lot more than just buying outright and then using those 3gb for 3 month Three sims you can pick up for £7ish
It's the contract length vs contract cost vs buying outright vs PAYG.
It's a lot of money for the 3G versions of any device including mobiles / data dongles e.t.c.
The companies are doing well from UK people that buy these devices in terms of profit, check out the stats of shares / income e.t.c for the likes of T-Mobile / Dell / Apple / Orange / Vodafone e.t.c e.t.c e.t.c.
I cant understand why anyone would buy this on contract (and I work for Everything Everywhere). The price over a 2 year contract is insane. Do you really need the 3g?
I guess it you cant afford the upfront fee for the iPad 'sim free' then its one way to spread the cost but like Acid said you really would be better sticking on a cc or overdraft. I would be interested to see Apple's numbers on 3g vs wifi only sales
When I first heard it I thought the same! Over time its grown on me and to be honest its not meant to be a consumer facing part of the brand - T-Mobile and Orange still exist and are what the consumer buys.
