hi
i dont think there is a deal in it .

the 6990 is about £90 cheaper .

the 590 i think is quieter .

the 6990 has more vram

if you put one card in then played . then put the other card in then played i dont think you could tell the difference .

hope that helps

It does mate.

I have just been looking @ HWbot and the 6990 looks better but think its due to the age of the cards.......

Does anyone know if the 590 will sort the screens?

I'm in the same boat as you sold my 5970 and looking to purchase either 590 or 6990, Im edging towards the 590 myself due to the noise issue and drivers issues I had with my 5970

Just been looking and thinking i can get two 6950s flash them to 70s and on paper they should be better than any of the above...

Pls tell me if im on drugs.

£413 for the 2 cards (xxx XFX)

Dont bother is my thought but if you really have to then 6990, it is significantly louder than your 5970 though

But if you can then CF or SLI will be much better than either.

The only thing that puts me off red team is the power and the heat. Or has that changed?

Only have a 700w psu think it will do two atis but nvid might be pushing it a little.

I'd save you money and wait til the end of the year/next year when the die shrink and extra shaders/ better performing atis come around. Is there anything thats really struggling with your 5970?

neither... if you have a motherboard that can do crossfire or SLI it seems far better to go with either a couple of unlocked 6950s or 400/500 series SLI.

Normally I'd have reccomended the 590 as however you look at it - in the realworld nVidia's multi GPU support is better, however the 590 has some worrying concerns at the moment that need sorting out.

Buy one off each, then rip the shroud/fan off the 590 and stick it on the 6990, then you finally get a good card out of them :p

Seriously the 6990/590gtx should ONLY be bought if you intend to run quad sli/fire AND have the case in another room to where you are, or have some retardedly small case that can't fit 2 proper cards in.

In all other situations 570gtx sli or better value, same/better performance 6950xfire, if they flash to 6970's you're doing great, and they have better xfire scaling, if you fancy either company, those would be your options really.

What I really don't get is the guys saying the dual gpu cards are good for matx systems, I honestly don't know if theres anyone with a tiny case that could fit a stupidly long card anyway, nor why they couldn't buy a bigger case.

Though as Somnambulist said, if it had to be one of the two, wait for a decently cooled 6990 to launch, probably Asus/Msi/XFX for a decent version, can't remember if Gigabyte are doing AMD cards anymore?

From what i have seen, 6990 ***, this is coming from someone who doesnt give a flying **** about noise though as i normally have devildriver cranked up loud on my x540s, and even without that i still dnt get bothered by the noise, im no fan boy of amd, both nvidia and amd make great cards, but in this particular choice i say amd 6990
