Right, well pretty catastrophic problem over here..
I had been having some stability issues with my ram, OCZ platinum DDR2 800 low latency stuff, in my mainboard, an Intel reference P35 board,
i have 2 dual channel pairs of 1GB per stick, I have had some small stability issues in a previous gigabyte p35 board, but 95% of the time it was fairly stable until recently where i had started getting totally random crashes, where the screen would suddenly be a blur of horizontal lines for a second then BSoD or reboot, so i swapped the board over to the intel...
In the intel board, 2 of the sticks caused the system to lockup in POST or in the BIOS menu, the remaining 2 seemed to work for a few days, then i started getting the same random crash as before...
and then suddenly the whole pc cuts out, i quickly looks in the case to find the outer surround section of the rams heatspreader had unstuck itsself from the ram module and fallen onto the mainboard... with as it would seem, pretty devastation effects...
So i removes the no detached piece of metal and attempts to reboot the pc, and i was faced with 4 beeps from the mainboard... looking this up, it is the error code for 'No Memory'
i tries re seating and swapping out the ram, even testing with a totally different module, unfortunately all with the same responce from the board.
Anyways, it seems that this board is pretty much mullered... I have contacted OCZ and they are happy to honor their memorys lifetime warrenty, but have refused, and at first totally ignored any liability for the mainboard....
So, now i am left with a core 2 cpu, and cooler, and some sort of replacement ram hopefully from OCZ eventually... I dont really want to pay out for another skt775 mainboard.. but even an ugrade to an i3 4Ghz bundle will cost me more than £100 over what i can get for the existing parts
