Hi as per title realy i have an ocz 400w stealth xstream psu and was wondering if it would power a system of this spec or not ,
system is as follows
q8300
asus rampage formula x48
275gtx
2gb ram
1 x dvd drive
1 x 74 gb raptor hdd
1 x 250 gb hdd
and a few fans

The psu its self has 1 x 6+2 pin pci-e lead so was asuming i could use a molex to 6 pin for the other pci-e.

thanks in advance

You should be fine. Might be worth selling your current psu and buying a 550w just to be on the safe side, might cost you £25 so very much worth it. Are you overclocking?

I wouldn't chance it

My rig pulls a touch under 300w with a card that draws significantly less.

PSU's aren't 100% efficient though so the power drawn is not representative of the power the components are using. Your PSU will be outputting 240W at most. I have a 430W with my spec.

He won't be overclocking at, all is just staying at std settings,
but have managed to make him part with some £££ for a better psu
Thanks for replies

It would work perfectly fine. Waste of money to upgrade when that rig wont even touch 300w at stock settings. The 400w Stealthxstream is a very good 400w aswell.

More like ~250w.

It isn't close what so ever. The OP rig would consume around 300w stock under full load (LinX + Furmark). Normal load conditions would be way lower.

Perhaps not when fresh out of the box, but PSU's get less efficient as they get older and the capacitors age. Give it a couple of years and it'd be too close for comfort when running at full tilt.

Cap aging was an issue maybe 5 years ago. With most high quality Powersupplies nowadays you can only expect to lose about 10-30w over the period of around ~5-7 years.

This particular OCZ is a high quality CWT unit. Probably the best 400w there is. Nothing to worry about.
