Hi, i bought minecraft today.. and OH SWEET BABY JESUS AND THE ORPHANS its amazing!! :D

I have a question tho. Im always on the look out for good multiplayer games to play with my girlfriend. There arnt to many games she actully enjoys playing and none of them are actually Multiplayer -_-Is the multiplayer in minecraft much good? Ive googled it but only find ppl hosting servers etc rather than having a world that you two can share/build together.

If you do want to play together do you have to pay for a server? IM a noob when it comes to servers etc. So any advice will be appreciated :)

Afaik the server code/program is available for free, then you just need a computer to host it on, I guess a local LAN based server would work.

I believe FrenchTart on here runs a server as does oxygene, they might be along to offer some advice.

We couldnt really do LAN, She lives a good 40 miles away at uni. Was hopeing to be able to use it as a bigger/better version of msn if you get me lol :( Im sure my computer can be the 'host' Ill look into it a bit more :D

But is the multiplayer much good?

and is it easyish/cheapish to run it (multiplayer with server etc)? never really delt with servers etc ..apart from call of duty :P

just join the ocuk server tbh.

the mp need s a fair few mods to be fully functional (nether etc) so it'll be easier to join a server than try and set up 2 of your own + all other mods.

The nether addon I use has portal problems. Doesnt autocreate portals when you go through, and even making a portal on the exact spot yuo went through takes you a LONG way from your start point (2000 squares).

But yes I did a server over hamachi with a few mates at first and now its online permanently. I loved the game single player, until I tried multiplayer. It's the difference between notepad and irc!

setting up the mc server is so easy though, just dl the server.exe, forward the port you will be using and if its private enable the whitelist for you and your gf, i host my own server with 8 friends from work with no problems, now ive learnt some more ive started to get plugins like bukkit and craftbukkit, we now have a motd, lockett, tp commands and an advanced whitelist. 8 of us are looking at building a dedicated server in summer and getting a 24/7 mc server up, will be using big brother etc, quite similar to the ocuk server i guess.

Thousends of glitching ghasts,

yeah last time people said there were thousands/hundreds i checked, there was 44...

to put that in perspective there's usually 150+ creepers wondering around

being able to see daylight.

Well that's down to the map loading method mc uses not the nether happens in the over world too.

But if seeing day light during the 20 seconds you take to load in is game breaking then I'm amazed you can stand normal mine craft.

Im not talking about normal ghast just floating around im talking about ghasts that are glitching from one spot to another 20-50 blocks away every frame, sometimes there are hundreds of them doing that with a few floating round as they should, and im not the only one that has seen this and it happens quite regularly.

The Nether is like this all the time on the ocuk server or my own server, whereas in singleplayer it is perfectly fine, and yes i did return minecraft to stock in case it was the texture pack but it still was the same.
