If you want to take a blowtorch to a $5500 exhaust be my guest. The tips alone are almost a grand :/

I'll let nature run its course hehe

:eek::eek::eek:

*faints*

Well at least its Ti. And the build quality looks top drawer not that i'd expect any less.

Very nice exhaust there...my brother just recently splashed something stupid on a titanium exhaust system for his GTR...crazy fool spending that much but then hes nearly spent $100k on the car and tuning it to near 600bhp....geez im wetting my pants knowing that in a few weeks time ill be there either driving it or letting him scare the holy crap out of me...cant wait :p

Crazy cars when tuned up. A close friend here has a 900hp one, about $150k in mods alone. It appears to have lost its daily driver ability however, it's about as subtle as a 747.

Nice. Brady showed up at Goodwood with an Akrapovic and it was by far the best sounding GT-R there.

Wait, he's spent $100k *not* including purchase price? And he's not over 600bhp? That's a decat, downpipes, exhaust and Cobb ($5k at most).

Again...$150,000k on mods alone? Something is wrong there. Even if I went on a trolley spree at Endless, stopped off at Amuse and then took a GT-R in for the Alpha 10 treatment at AMS (1100 bhp with the sort of streetabilty your friend has lost), I'd come home with change. I'm including Magnalium wheels, MONO-6 brakes, Recaro ASM X's and the full ESTA kit.

He should post some pictures, I'm sure NAGTROC and GTROC readers would love to see what has to be one of the worlds most expensively modified GT-R's.

When mods like this start to cost silly money its time to stop and spend it on a better car.

Mods = max expenditure for minimal performance gains, in my experience.

I dont agree when it comes to putting a reputable brand exhaust like the akra on an m3.. Most modders will change an exhaust, I wouldnt take it as means the sell the car, not least an e92 m3

Indeed...nutty cars when tuned up...altho its winter there in Canada, where my brother is...hes itching to get that monster out and about.

Tbh mate i dont know as im here in the UK and hes in Canada...all i know is that hes spent quite a bit of money on the car itself then went and splashed a lot more on a titanium exhaust system much to his wifes disapproval...for all i know he could be exaggerating the costs but i know for a fact that its been tuned to around 600bhp....he sent me a video of it on a rolling road where they verified it hitting 600bhp-ish.

EDIT: No if im not mistaken hes spent around $100k+ on the car and the mods...not another $100k on mods alone:p...hes rich but not that bloody rich lol...i can see where the confusion is in my original post though...i think the exhaust and tuning package iirc cost him around $6k or something.

Nothing is wrong at all, he's one of the wealthiest people I've ever met, a billionaire. The whole car has been gutted and rebuilt from the ground up using carbon and other materials. The company in Miami that does all the work has hand built every single component and rebuilt the engine to the customers exact specs. Believe me, if you want to go that crazy, $150k doesn't get you very far.

I haven't had chance to take any sound clips or take proper pictures yet but I'll get on that sometime this weekend.

I'm very pleased with the result, it's not too loud and provides quite a 'round' note. It is however *very* loud on startup until the cats warm up.

Not hugely noticable in the cabin after 4/5k rpm but provides a lovely note at 2-4k. Outside is a different matter however, it's a marked improvement!

The sound itself is very hard to describe but titanium gives quite a warm sound, very well rounded, not harsh at all; it *sounds* expensive which is good given how much the thing cost!

Looking good :)

Are there any posh flaps to keep the noise down?

No valves since it's not over the top loud anyway. I was torn between the Akra and the valved Kreisseig system but the valves do have a tendency to go wrong over time and to be honest I draw the line at $5500 for an exhaust, $10000 for a Kreisseig is beyond what I and 99% of the population are prepared to spend.

What are the benefits of a titanium exhaust system other than weight?

Surely the weight advantage is akin to getting rid of the spare tyre?

The main benefit is weight but honestly I don't really care much about that other than simply saying it *is* lighter.

Ti exhausts give a totally different sound to stainless steel ones, a very different note. There are many cheaper full Ti systems on the market but Akrapovic is reknowned as one of the best exhaust manufacturers in the world, you truly do get what you pay for. How many other manufacturers are prepared to pay for a new engine if it goes bang within the first 2 years of Akra ownership? Even the packaging is beautiful with all the tips and pipes wrapped individually in lambs wool and then bubble wrap.

I wasn't knocking it, just wondering.

I know that the F355 sounds ridiculously sublime with a Ti exhaust but I thought that was due to the various lengths and in small part to Ti.
