ntoskrnl.exe DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE

Hey guys,

I am having a problem with my PC. Since Friday, my PC has crashed with a BSOD at least once a day. The blue screen shows DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. When I use who crashed, it says ntoskrnl.exe could be the problem.

I did a repair installation to try and fix it, but the PC crashed again this morning.

I cannot think what is causing this problem.

Just to note, it first happened with SP1 installed. I had to uninstal SP1 to repair instal, and now it has happened again without SP1 installed.

It says it is caused by another driver, which cannot be identified. However, I cannot think what could actually be causing this, as since Friday, I haven't installed any new hardware.

chipset drivers
ethernet drivers
wireless drivers

Might have nothing to do with it, but it's a good place to start

Get the ethernet and wireless from the maker of your adaptors, and not the motherboard manufacturer, will be more up to date

You don't have Zonealarm or anything like this do you? This tends to cause weird issues

No ZoneAlarm. I used MS Security Essentials. Graphics now up to date. As are ethernet. No wireless so ok there. Still need to do chipset drivers.

Where is the best place to find the most up to date chipset drivers? Intel or Gigabyte? That one always confuses me.
 
Always go for the manufacturer of the chipset, not the manufacturer of the board. So go to intel and go through their desktop chipset software and grab the latest one.

That issue is as already advised, generally driver related. Worth checking all your drivers tbh including audio etc.

Funnily enough mate I've had the same bsod problem starting from around the same time! Exactly the same .exe causing it. My rig is totally different though:

Athlon II x4 620
Asus M4A77TD-pro
MSI GTX 470
windows 7 home premium (no sp1)

Anyway, a second bsod I got reported that usbport.sys was at fault (the first was ntoskrnl.exe). I since installed this patch:

And my computer hasn't blue screened yet. I'm not sure if it will help you, but it's something for you to look into anyway.
