Evening gents,

Just purchased this on the bay and it should be arriving next week Monday. Just curious as to how easy this phone is to unlock and root. I've had a look at the MoDaCo HTC Desire page but i've no idea what ROM is best to put on, i'm after something which is fast, stable and reliable if possible so I can just stick an update ROM on it and leave it at that.

I'm coming off a San Fransisco which had about 10 if not more different ROM's which were all super easy to put on with Clockwork, i'm assuming it's the same process with the HTC? What's the over clocking headroom on these phones as i'll be looking to OC it too.

Cheers.

Just used Clockwork to NAND flash my HD2 so HTC builds are using it.

My advice? Get the latest/stable/working CLEAN Android image you can get and forget about the builds with a load of other stuff in. What that is for the Desire I am unsure of but it should not be hard to find.

i prefer Oxygen. its stripped down 2.3 Rom without sense, i find battery lasts longer as well.

modaco isnt updating his rom's for none paying customers from what i gather. i moved from his R8 to Oxygen 2.01 and its been great.

If your thinking about trying different ROMs i'd recommend installing ROM manager so you can easily switch between them.

Thanks for the info guys, just had a quick look at the guides on Modaco and XDA and it seems you can't fully 'flash' a HTC Desire due to the protection it comes with which is getting me worries as i'm scared i'll **** something up when rooting it. I've also not seen anything about unlocking these phones anywhere, the one i've bought is on Orange and i'd like to get a GiffGaff SIM in there if possible.

I use RCMixHD v14, ace ROM, gives the SenceHD features.
Ive heard the new 'final' V2 of the ROM is very very good.

Been installing a few using Rom Manager (awsome app) & i cant decide... soo many choices.

I REALLY loved Oxygen, it was super fast but i really need the Sense Mail, RRS News & messages widgets ...no way i can be without them. Some of the widgets off the market were pants compared with the official HTC widgets.

Any ROM's that have the best of both? From what ive seen on this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328 its either Sense or no Sense ...

grrrrr

Apologies for the bump here but i've just got the phone now, tried video recording in 720P HD and it's only recording at 18FPS. Still running the normal HTC ROM though, is there any way to get 30FPS video recording?

I find Oxygen gives me terrible battery life compared to LeeDroid.

I'm currently trying a MIUI Gingerbread ROM due to boredom. Unfortunately Touchdown doesn't work and the Android Exchange client just isn't good enough really.

Been flashing a lot of different ROMs on my Desire over the last few weeks.

I'm a massive Sense fan, but am learning to live without it with Cyanogenmod 7 RC2. I find this Gingerbread based ROM much faster than my traditional LeeDroid (With Sense). My next test will be RCmixHD.

Im loving villain Au giving it a bash while the new miui gingerbread gets the bugs sorted.

Epic battery life.
