MInecraft question from a nooby... Is this normal??

I Bought minecraft a few days back and love it but ive come across something and i cant find anything about it on the net. Can you help?

I was expanding my mine and i removed a two block..and all HELL broke loose. I had about 10/20 arrows fired through the hole within 10-15 seconds. I managed to see through before i died and noticed around 6 skeletons and a firey block in the room. As im a nooby i dont have the most amazing gear

just a stone sword and lether armor lol So i thought "well if i just stand here with a sword ill let the skellys come to me and ill kill them one by one as they pass through the door way/two missing blocks.

About 30 mins, 5 corpse runs, 25 skeletons later..i decided these guys were spawning here. I managed to slowly open the room up a little and got a few screen shots. They arnt that clear. THis was about as near as i could get to it and i had to burrow under it and cut my way up into the room.

Can any one give me an explanation of whats going on in this room? Like i say i cant find anything on the net about this.

Its a monster spawner perfectly normal

it'sa dungeon.

that fiery block spawns a mob (either skeletons or zombies) and there's also 2 chets with loot in them inside the room, and the green cobble stone the room is made of is unite to the dungeon rooms an pretty rare.

If you get in there and surround the cube/block with torches it wont spawn any more skeletons. then you can destroy it if you like

AH... soooo im guessing i should just brick the room up and forget about it for now untill i get better armor?

nah just storm in without armour an slam torches down.

then you only have to kill the survivors

those chests can contai na pig sadle which lets you ride pigs
