Rumour: Crytek was paid money to delay support of DirectX 11 for Crysis 2

NVidia was reported to have spent around $2 million for marketing of their graphics card, GTX 590. They made a deal with EA that allowed them exclusive features for the PC version of Crysis 2.

According to the rumour mentioned in the title, the money NVidia paid to EA was not for marketing, but to delay the support for DirectX 11 in Crysis 2, so that players would have access to their graphics card when DirectX 11 ‘s support was released. The rumour also says that DirectX 11 will only support GTX 590 in Crysis 2.

I really hope this isn`t true...

Nvidia? Hobbling the PC gaming industry and trying to muscle themselves to the top with no regard for anything but their own card sales?

Shock. Horror.

As per the report they are capable, nvidia should get back to designing decent efficient gfx cards instead of playing underhanded tactics, not impressed nvidia - the batman tactic and possibly this reeks of desperation at knowing they have a subpar product.

if this is true then i cant believe nvidia went to great lengths just for this. I hope nothing like this happens to battlefield 3. Stupid marketing tactics!

Thread title is lol. It's like, 'ah they were paid money! There was me thinking they might have been paid in cookies!' :D

Its a rumour reported by one guy...

Even if there is any truth then its a bit of a daft tactic. If wont change the game much, the game looks great as it is and pretty much everybody who is going to buy the game will have already done so and played through. Not like they can actually market the game for it from scratch again.

I find all that story very hard to believe...

Seriously who the hell would buy a 590 just for Crysis 2 when it looks worse than Crysis? Theres no logic to any of it, they just don't have anything to really gain.

iirc this has been said before some other game (might be metro) has a lot of it's gfx features disabled at launch till a new nvidia card came out then they were all patched in.

because they'll then release a bunch of screen shots etc showing the difference on the new nvidia car (and use pictures from the ati cards running the older version of the game)

Surely anyone willing to fork out £600 for a graphics card isn't going to so mind-numbingly thick?
