What fun car for £5K?

I've looked into these a few times but what has always stopped me is that everyone I talk to (including 200sx owners past and present) say that in standard form they are quite lacking in the handling department?

they are set-up as a GT more than anything but there's a huge range up suspension upgrade options that aren't going to break the bank and will transform it. Changes are you'll end up with one that's already been done though :)

DC2 and with your budget you can easily pickup a low mileage UKDM or even early JDM DC2.

UKDM is 187BHP and JDM is 197BHP and in a car weighing less than 1100KG = win win.

I also think the Clio 182 would be a good shout. Not driven one but they look nice and get good reviews in terms of handling.

So then get the driftworks handling pack, and a nice set of Rotas, then win.

overpriced. I'd be looking at an EP3 at that price. I don't want to start an EP3 vs DC2 debate as it's been done many times here - i'd just prefer a newer car.

Could probably get him down on the price though.

Its a good example though, sometimes worth paying a little extra for that better treatment and history.

First one would be nice if it was all the same colour.

Second one is the kind of thing I'm looking for. Will be making enquiries about that :)

the GT4 is a great car, just avoid the ones with sunroofs if your tall in the body, it significantly reduces the space so you'll probably be touching the roof...

Hi there,

Going back to the OP, you would indeed struggle to get a Dax Rush for that money, but they are one of the most expensive Seven clone kits, and as such are normally built to a high (expensive) standard (bling wheels etc etc) and are therefore expensive. You could pick up one of the cheaper kits for that kind of money though - MK, Tiger, Luego or even a self-built. You really need to know what you're looking for and looking at if considering one of these (same applies for the Dax too though). Support community over at locostbuilders.co.uk is epic though if you are considering that route. Maybe go to a show and have a look/blag some rides.

Having said that there's a guy on there trying to sell his Dax Rush and would probably accept something not too much higher than your budget if you could stretch it. Built to a high standard (8-9k invested) but not quite finished though and needs to be IVAd, so would cost you further ££ than the asking price and some time.

Otherwise - see above - MX5 would be great (but a Suzuki Cappuccino is better :)). If you can get a cheap one and treat it to some goodies - suspension, supercharger kit etc etc all the better. I'd recommend trying one stock before tinkering with it though.

Another vote for s14a. I owned one a few years back, and it was one of the best handling cars i have ever drove. Its easy to step the back end out true, but its so easy to correct. 200bhp as standard.
Buy an mx5 for the wife/Gf
