Rumour: Crytek was paid money to delay support of DirectX 11 for Crysis 2

I imagine it being just for the GTX 590 would be a bad idea, I hope there aren't Nvidia only features though.

i sure nvidia done something similar but not to this scale with batman, as you could not apply aa with amd cards. quite shocking really
crysis - comes out in 2007 with dx 10
crysis 2 - 2011 and only dx9
in a way i hope this is true because at least crysis 2 will be properly optimised for dx11 and not just implemented.

I also heard that HL2_EP3 is to be console only, and that EA are going to be giving all their profits this year to orphanages and kitten rescue centres.

This doesn't make financial sense. nVidia don't care about 590 sales, they care that they have the fastest single processor graphics card and the fastest dual processor graphics card around.

It would make no sense for them to try to push a few extra sales of the 590, which is such a tiny part of their revenue.

Would I believe that they are doing something underhand to favour their cards over AMDs? Yes, I would. But for them to push the 590 and only the 590 is just stupid.

So if the rumour is slightly wrong and that nVidia have asked/paid/whatever for it to be delayed so that they can work with Crytek in order to optimise their drivers to blow AMD drivers out of the water... I could believe that.

Would it be possible for dx11 features to be locked out for ati cards even? I know nvidia use the vendor id thing for physx but i can't see crytek coding the dx11 stuff to make use of only nvidia hardware.

id rather go with my own theory that releasing with only dx9 lowered the potential amount of gamers crying about performance when "maxed" al la crysis, this would go hand in hand with this naming convention in the settings menu.

This isn't actually the first time Nvidia has done something like this (if it's true). DX10 was originally meant to be DX11 but was gimped to hell because Nvidia cards didn't support the feature set (whilst ATI's did) and decided it was just better to throw their weight around to ensure a gimped API rather than release a proper card family on time.
