I have a couple of Android apps in the store (Ad supported and paid for so won't link to them) and I no longer have an Android phone. I've just been issued with a works iPhone so I'm not interested in having another phone.

I'm literally looking for a phone to test the apps on cheap as possible and must have (or being ROMable) to 2.2. I was considering a HTC Wildfire or X10 Mini but I don't want to spend £150. I also looked at the Pulse Mini but that looks really bad.

Any recommendation that are decent and sub £100.

Samsung Galaxy Portal (Spica) is a contender... Plus there's various mods on samdroid to turn it into an actually pretty good handset :)

(SpicagenMod gives you Android 2.2.1, YONIP Kernel overclocks you from 800mhz to 1066mhz, various other patches to aid with ram management... it all helps :))

San Fran all the way, got my gf a Portal/Spica last year, and it gives nothing but grief, had no issues with any other Android handset.

Have tried a host of ROMs, stock 1.5, stock 2.1, modded 2.1, modded 2.2, it runs like a dog on any of them.

San Fran was so easy to mod and flies by comparison.

Likewise, bought my gf a San Fran recently and also found everything very easy to flash and mod...she loves the phone.

Orange SanFran for the other reasons, more because it's pretty simple to use with 2.2 or 2.1 (market share should probably dictate you test on both currently tbh) via ROM switching and it's cheap. The only thing against it is the fact that the majority of Androids sold to date are 1Ghz which this isn't, but if your app isn't CPU/GPU intensive you'll be fine.
