Morning all,

For the past few days I have been looking at some 500GB-750GB hard drives for a Macbook Pro early 2011.

Now I am looking for some advice as there seems to be a lot of mixed reviews over HDDs. I was looking at the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500Gb however there are people which have problems with the drive parking intermittently.

Can anyone recommend a drive which they are using or have used?

Go for the Seagate Momentus XT, you can't get quicker without getting an SSD. Next step down would be a 500GB Hitachi 7K500 or the slightly slower/louder 500GB WD Scorpio Black (the 750GB is slower).

I have read that there are a lot of problems with the Momentus XT's. I am currently using a WD Scorpio Black 500GB. Perfectly silent, fast and no problems.

How have the WD Black or Seagate XT drives effected battery life, if at all, for people who have them?

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

I ended up going with the Hitachi 500GB 7K500, it seemed to be the best price. Hopefully the 7200rpm makes a nice difference.

Not a massive difference in speed but it all counts. The space makes a big difference of course.
