How hectic is your life?

My life doesn't exist anymore... I'm training to be a secondary school music teacher, play in a band, and work at a local Saturday morning music school.

Up at 6, 40 minute drive into school for 7:40. Teach all day, and stay in school till 5 or so. Twice a week we stay till 6 for the course lectures. Then I come home, eat dinner and plan lessons until about 11pm when I go to bed.

Weekends, up for music school, finish at 1pm, usually have a few hours for planning before shooting off to wales, brighton, london, yorkshire or the midlands for a band gig, often home at 2 or 3am. Sundays are often a full day of planning (I spent a solid 10 hours on my assignment last week), often a sunday gig too. Then up at 6 on Monday :(

Currently posting from home, I'm off sick after having a bit of a meltdown last weekend - worked like this for something like 30 days solidly since last half term. Apart from the news on over breakfast, I've not watched telly, read any of my book, even turned on my xbox during term time since September... hate it!

Seriously considering not being a secondary school teacher come september!

Private tutoring ? Could pay a lot more with enough talent and advertisement?

I really need to stop posting and running, Ha. Didnt realise there were questions aimed at me within in this thread :D

DMX lighting - awesome! Last time I tried to start a thread on GD about DMX, they piled in the jokes about the rapper called DMX lol. I'm only a hobbiest myself and I'm interested to compare notes. My rig is entirely LED at the moment. 4 slimline par cans, 4 Dynaleds, 1 Astraled, 2 stage blinders, 2 of the new Aspect bars and an Antari smoke machine.

It would appear you're ahead of me already, What do you use? DMX controller or software? Most I've done is have astroballs running in sequence so far, using the software and function switches. But we have plenty of stuff in shop to play with. Just got a new Bluelaser in animated. 350 quid, And it looks awesome, especially through smoke\haze.

what club?

It used to be called Viva I believe, New owners and new name once it's finished though.

OP how did you get into that ? im sure all my mate does is something similar (installing sound/lights at clubs/festivals) and he had to study sound engineering at uni beforehand aswell as moving half way across the country for the job.

I sort of had the job drop in my lap, I was really lucky. The guy running the business is a good friend, and the same guy I DJ for at a rock Venue. He needed a second pair of hands as work was snowing him under. And so I agreed to help him out. It's his business, I just get a wage. But we do everything to do with the DJ\lighting entertainment industry, and we only have 1 direct competitor in the South Yorkshire area, So business is really good. I just wish I knew more about it :D

I've always worked split shifts being a chef so my day pretty much starts at 9.15 for my 25 mile drive to work to start at 10, i don't bother driving home on my split, i usually take my netbook, and as i'm running the kitchen, and trying to gain a reputation for myself and my workplace (even after 6 weeks i'm / we are getting some fantastic feedback from the customers), I spend my break (3 hours) researching menus recipes for inspiration for my weekly specials. I Start back at about 5.30pm till 10pm and then drive home, giving me an hour or so of family time(well partner because kids are asleep then). On my 1 or 2 days off, i do the weekly shop, gardening etc. So i'd say my life was pretty hectic.

Pretty busy at work and in most weekends as my cell cultures don't like being left longer than a couple of days.

When I'm not at work, working at home or thinking about work, I'm cooking, washing, cleaning or teaching myself Python (with a view to applying it to my work). Fun times.

PhD in Microbiology? If so where?:)

Been there and done that - the maximum I could get as a private instrumental tutor up to was about 10 or 11 regular students per week. That would only pay me about £150-200 (depending on the ratio of half hour or hour lessons), and I was forever suffering from cancellations - I think about 8 taught lessons per week was the norm.

The problem is, learning an instrument is a luxury, and I can totally see the financial point of view. £100 for a month for saxophone lessons is the first thing to go if somebody's struggling to pay the bills, no?

I'm looking quite seriously into setting up as a driving instructor - teaching is my "thing", but a year in the classroom has shown that teaching 30 teenagers at once, isn't! :p

Other than work and daily life - it's not too hectic.

Work between 45-50hrs a week.
Go to the gym 3-4x a week
Keep the house tidy
Don't have any kids to worry about
Currently don't have another half to worry about

So really life is just bobbing along without too much stress. Still, going on holiday in 3 weeks which I cannot wait for!

Really? How do you fit that all in?

In fact how do some people in here fit all that in?

40/44hours a week full time job.

5 hours a week 2nd job.

Misses 3 nights a week, stays over every other weekend on my ones off work.

Pretty busy tho, liking the money atm to be honest.

Not hectic but just the right level of busy.

Working anything from 8-10 hours a day Monday to Thursday.
Some evenings do marking/work at home.
Normally finish early on Friday.
Gym 3-4 times a week (normally 2 x Gym with 3 x Football but injured foot just now).
Cinema once or twice a week.
Go out at the weekend and sometimes go to the football.
Leaves plenty of time for a bit of xbox, reading, listen to music, tidy etc.
Normally sleep from 11/12 until 8am.

On an average 57 hour week at work.
3 x 2 hour Muay Thai sessions a week
4 x 1 hour Gym sessions a week.
I can only really game on my days off. As long as I don't get a list of jobs to complete first!

I've worked a rigid 8-8 throughout my career. I left my first job due to stress - I went in to do extra work every single sunday (apart from four) for an entire year at one point! I now work 9-8, unfortunately this is now a more stressful position than my first one. It sucks.

I invariably tend to do very little else with my time due to tiredness. I manage to fit in a film most nights, a couple of pints during the week and football every other weekend.

i have an odd adiciton to procrastination... untill i'm crapping myself before the weekly coursework deadline the night/morning before.... its strangely addictive....

I work 35 hours a week + 3 hours per day commute
I help my dad at the weekend 12 hours per weekend
Wedding season coming up and I go all over the country to shoot weddings
In the evening when I get home from work I do photo editing until bed time (after food)
Keep the house tidy
No other half, in fact, I keep saying it, if i did, I will probably get dump because i will hardly see her unless she stays over a lot. lol

Oh, I have a holiday in 2 weeks! :D

Life is pretty hectic right now. Between working a shift pattern that kills any possibility of a social life or a sleep pattern, my fiance lives at the other side of the world and I fly over there every few weeks to see her. This also kills my social life and sleep pattern. And whenever I get a spare few days I usually fly home to Ireland.

It's difficult trying to fit in and pay for 150-200k air miles a year whilst working a full time job and having pretty much every person that matters to me living a plane ride away.

Oh and on top of that, I have just been told that my fiance’s nephew is imminently going to pass away so no doubt I'm going to have to fly over to the US for a couple of days on Wednesday or Thursday.
