so far found giffgiff (no contract)
250mins (back to 150mins end of march)/ unlimited texts / unlimited data

three (12month contract)
100mins / 3000 texts / 1GB data

do three still have the best 3g coverage?

I have been using Giffgaff for 6 weeks now and I am quite impressed, I am not interested in talk time just data speed and no download limits. The O2 network seems to be being improved with further investment in 3G infrastructure, I think they are investing in upgrading the 900mhz 2G network to higher bandwidth 3G speeds.

I was in Manchester last weekend around the Media City / Salford Quays development and I was getting 4000kbs+ speeds on my Lg GT540 with Giffgaff sim, but they have spent significiant amounts on the fibre network in that area.

My wife has a 3 dongle that she has used occasionally for the past year, usually she gets decent connection speeds of 1000kbs+.

Might be worth getting a couple of payg sims and testing them out before committing to anything long term.

tesco £10 500 minutes 5000 texts 30 day rolling no phone its all over the weekend papers

I think 3 have an agreement with TMobile and share their 3G cells- not 100% sure as I can't remember where I read it

And the Giffgaff 250 minutes isn't going to drop, they changed the goodybag permanently.

If you sign up for the 12month contract you get 300mins not 100 as stated above.

You get 100 mins if you do the £10 monthly contract instead of 12 months.

This is specific to you, I'd really suggest you try a few PAYG sims at work / home / play.

well at work I did a few speed tests and got between 2k & 25k downloads
2 other guys at work get between 1.6mb & 2.5mb! 1 of them is on orange, the other is on 3..

o2 at home indoors is usless, cannot get a 3g signal (even though according to the o2 coverage checker I should have a excellent signal) outside I get 512k.
