Sell it cheap, sell lots of them only goes so far, then its not viable, and cartel or not common sense prevails. Also dont think for one second the top bods in the insurance game dont get together for a mutually beneficial round of golf now and then.

I agree that in microeconomic situations like that it often doesn't happen. However, UK car insurance is a mostly nationally operated £20 Billion industry. Anonymous PLCs don't care if they screw over the competition.

I'd say the ultimate supporting evidence of my position is the fact that the situation we are in now is that the insurance industry is very competitive.
