No more petrol cars or rectangular banana's?

But UK Transport Minister Norman Baker said it should not be "involved" in individual cities' transport choices.

"We will not be banning cars from city centres anymore than we will be having rectangular bananas," he said.

Go Tory :)

Won't we of run out of oil by then anyway? Don't see the problem really, as much as I hate it I can't see many people running petrol/diesel powered cars in 40 years time anyway.

As much as I dislike driving through a city, quite frankly public transport infrastructure is not currently adequate to handle the extra load and with the legislation that is currently in place I think we'd struggle to even meet the 2050 deadline.

But it's nice to that this government have the balls to stand up for this country and act independantly.

Agreed. But it is nice to see the government not going along with another silly EU rule/deadline.

freight vehicles in cities becoming "carbon-free" by 2030

Come on then europe

where is the Carbon Free electricity you speak of ?

I'm sure we'd all love to have some. But to do that we've got to move away from coal fired power stations and onto something that doesnt burn fossil fuels, like .. oh i dunno nuclear ??

But they don't want us using that because its not "safe" because despite being flooded, shook by an earthquake, and suffering form severe explosions, the plant in fukishima has increased surrounding radiation levels "slightly" (quoted from Clarkson's colum in this weekends sun :D )

Go europe
