BMW 135i coupe a good idea ?

Great cars - brilliant engine, very quick, nice handling, reasonably economical for what it is, certainly one of the most if not THE most economical 300bhp cars around. Interior is a bit naff but better than Focus et al. Significant reliability concerns with the engine though - the high pressure fuel pump has chronic issues and there seems to be no known fix - it is the subject of an official recall in the USA.

So get the BMW warranty with it and keep it renewed and you'll be fine.

Can't comment on the drive but as a passenger in one the sound it makes is worth it alone :D

Youtube time :D

If i buy one privately where the BMW warranty has just expired is it possible to walk into BMW and purchase an extra year or will they only extend onto the last year of warranty, any idea of costs for a fourth year ?

These cars seem to be pretty thin on the ground, called the dealer who basically laughed at me as he said there are NONE around. What are they like to remap, Ive heard the 335i respond very well and obviously this is the same engine ...

Cheers

You can buy BMW warranty at any time now - but its much cheaper for sub 60k cars.

It's £510 a year for zero excess with emergency service, comprehensive cover.

They remap well - in excess of 350bhp - but then you lose the warranty, so it isnt worth the risk.

Fantastic, sounds pretty reasonable to me ... well far more reasonable than the warranty prices on there M cars. That is a good point alltho the itch to remap is going to be fairly savage ... problem is i can imagine when these go wrong there not cheap to put right

Cheers

Sure is.

Dont really understand why there is such a difference between UK and US. US cars are covered against HPFP failure for 10 years! UK cars no cover unless you have warranty.

We've just got our hands on a 535i, but it's come with a 4 year BMW warranty, so I think we'll be ok.

Anyway, enough OT. Although I wouldn't mind some more info on these issues - email in trust if you can be bothered :)

Where the heck did you find one of those?!
It's a full spec GT (with rear entertainment) from BMW Munich, director's car.
Although we did originally go out to see an F10 535i, but it had a really dodgy spec.

MSN in trust :)
I haven't used MSN in ages.. Don't even think I've got it installed on this computer :p

Rather have a really dodgy spec than a really really dodgy shape ;)

Agreed, the standard spec on a 535i is pretty good anyway.

The spec on this GT is insane though- I can count the options it doesn't have on one hand..
(nightvision, blind spot, active cruise, ventilated rear seats and literally one other thing)

New price was €96,000

I've never driven a 135i, but lets look at your previous cars.

Ford Racing Puma, VX220, Clio 182 cup, Impreza STI.

Surely you'll be bored within a week?

edit: I forgot the Leon-R too.

300bhp and rear wheel drive?

Though it may not be as much fun as the others. You forget a Clio Trophy IIRC.

I’ve wanted a BMW in my life for a while now, I’ve thought about an E46 M3 or even a Z4M Coupe but the problem is these cost millions of pounds to keep on the road and to be honest are no good if i need to do a few miles from time to time. This seems to fit the bill perfectly. Not only does it look good but I’ve read some pretty decent reviews and I’m sure the RWD aspect will keep me entertained. The other alternatives are a 335i or a 335D but not sure why id want a diesel over the petrol.

Will get a test drive booked, if I can find one :p

EDIT - Does the 335i have uprated brakes (ie 4 pots) from standard ?
