Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone here has taken the dive?

I'm really sick of the UK now, nothings getting better and my girlfriend lives over in Toronto so shes pushing me to go

I'm 24 and a IT Technician so i think i should be okay jobwise and they are screaming for IT over there. It's just taking that big Jump of leaving everything you have here and starting new over the seas.

I was wondering if anyone has done anything like this before and how they got on?

Have you got a Visa?

Are they really 'screaming' for IT technicians?

If you can get a Visa and a job - the big point here being IF because it probably isnt as easy as you think - then surely its a no brainer if your girlfriend lives there. How did that happen, did she move over there or something?

Not the nicest place in the world.

Does she really live in Toronto itself, or somewhere else in the wider Toronto municipal area? If it is somewhere like markham, then be prepared to drive everywhere, it is surburban sprawl in it's truest north American style.
Proper downtown Toronto is ok.

Yeah seem to be, i've been applying for jobs over there and getting responses from every single one with them wanting interviews.

I dont have a Visa yet but i need to require a job first before i can get the Visa i want.

I met my gf over summer last year, i went to visit my family (uncle, auntie) who live over there and met her! she came over in October. I went over there during Christmas then again in February and im going back again in April then were both going down to Mexico which will be a blast!

A good friend has just sent his visa application off.
He has a Canadian girlfriend, and wants to emigrate.

Apparently a HUGE amount to do - his visa application preparation was huge, and now is waiting the 3 months for an answer. Cost a lot as well

As far as i know you just need to secure a job and then its a simple process?

That surely cant just be for the 1 years working Visa can it?

I say go for it :p
I'm doing the one year Canada visa thing in a couple of years time to see if I like it out in Toronto - if all goes well, I'll be moving there too :)

Here's my problem.

I know I could get the 1 Year working Visa easy! Thats because i have family over there so entry would be easier than normal.

But here's my problem...

If I get the 1 years working Visa and get a job over there I can only stay at that job for a year before getting kicked out of the country. If i move into a apartment with my girlfriend then having to find that my 1 year is going to be over it would be pointless living in a apartment together and buying all new things.

So does anyone know if its possible to start off with that 1 Years working Visa then extending that to a much longer period once im there?

The only way i can think of is me proposing to her which get me entry? lol - i dont want to go to that though.

I'm fairly sure once the first year is over and you've decided you want to stay - you would have to go through the lines like everyone else. Obviously, you'll pretty much be guarenteed with family over there - but it will take time.

Just stay as an illegal and after like 10 years or something you get an automatic visa. Well thats what happens over here in the UK anyways..
