Unlocking Athlon x3 to x4 require extra cooling?

Should be fine.

But ultimately depends on how much voltage you'll need to put through to keep it stable.

And you know it's not guaranteed right?
 
Despite the stock cooler being pretty crap and noisy it should still manage OK with an unlocked core, and a small overclock too. I would advise spending £15 or so on a budget aftermarket cooler though.
