Condoms are now security boxed

You have quotes for male/female condoms, pretty sure the female ones are not available here anymore, and even so, they have always been notoriously bad! Its fair to put that figure to 85%.
My bad, I read the wrong line.
Male & female condoms? I see no mention of that there - Implanon is the subdermal contraceptive implant in common use now, not the old-style dams.

Then again, the figures themselves aren't very well portrayed. Are you (not you, PhillyDee) measuring a condom's effectiveness only on the basis of resulting pregnancy, or including prevention of STDs too? If the former, are you considering a general standard of use or assuming perfect usage? If the latter, are you citing male to female transmission rates or female to male rates? Condoms are very effective against pregnancy if used correctly (most sources cite 98% success rates under ideal conditions), but not so much for STDs - risk of transmission of gonorrhoea, I seem to remember, from male to female when using a condom is only about 70% reduction.

Read it again. Contraceptive effecacy, therefore prevention of pregnancy. Typical use as opposed to perfect use, which for condoms is indeed 98%. Perfect use for the pill brings it up to 99.7%. Typical/perfect use for the implant is n/a as it ian't behaviour affected.

Why are you embarrassed about getting laid?

Only teenagers get embarrassed about buying condoms.

You're embarrassed about getting condoms? Grow up and man up. :)

Woah, manly-man-man alert! Surprised you guys don't post on OCUK alert us of your purchases :p

There is something fundamentally embarrassing about buying condoms because when I buy groceries, the 16 year old check out girl doesn't instantly think I'm going to ram my value pack of raw chicken on my bell.

When was the last time you had some action?!

HAHA this is the first thing I thought too.

Secondly was whats the shame in getting laid? I think it's alpha buying condoms, knowing you're getting some haha.

Obviouslly it's better without them, but with the amount of disease ridden w**** out there it's wise to strap up the salami ;-)

Agreed, I still find it an embarassing purchase.

Last time I was buying a pack it was 22:55, and the store shut at 23:00. I was also out of breath as I had to run up to the shop as I dont drive. The woman behind the checkout was smirking alllll the way through the purchase. She was a bit of a milf, should have used an alpha card and asked her if she wanted to join in tbf. But no, Instead it was just an awkard moment.

She's probably looking at the many cucumbers, courgettes and butternut squashes on the conveyor belt, rather than the chicken :p

To me, buying condoms says: Trying damn hardest to get laid with any old heifer - worried incase I catch the bad aids if and when it happens! :p

If you're in a relationship with a 'clean' girl, a medical contraceptive(jag, pill etc) will be enough.

So, it would embarrass me! Haven't had to displeasure of buying them in a long time.

lol

you dont have a clue

There are some seriously misinformed and/or ignorant ideas in here regarding safe-sex & contraception. No wonder std and unplanned pregnancy rates are high!

Contraceptive efficacy rates
Typical Use
Implanon: 99.95%
The Pill: 92%
Condoms: 85%
Withdrawl:73%

Hmmm, odd figures they. They suggest that if you take the pill there is a 1 in 10 chance you'll get pregnant. This is surely incorrect - most people on the pill

a) Have sex more than 10 times a year
b) Are not having any babies, let alone one a year

Does it include the chance of the girl 'forgetting to take the pill'?

You buy condoms????????????

I've had the same one for years, quick swill under the tap and it's good to go again.

Based on those stats (and my extraordinary and proven virility) I should have 1000s of children by now. I have just 2 thankfully.

Apologies, didn't realise the underlined title was a link - facepalm :p

Still, the condom figure you've quoted is for female condoms and improper usage, so in reality the efficacy is considerably higher than 79%. Even the 85% figure strikes me as a little excessive if you're even a little aware of how to use a condom properly, and I wonder what proportion of that 15% were aware of any complications during conception and took the precaution of an emergency contraceptive wthin an appropriate time - were the stats strict, only those using a single method of contraception (i.e. no emergency contraception within 3 days after an incident).

Alas, it's simply the nature of society that progenity is inversely proportional to intellect. I can't see that ever changing.
