Adoption and Divorce

Is it like any family where the children aren't adopted? Parents just separate so on and so forth.
Can the parents loose the custody they have?

I should imagine if they have already been in custody for a long enough period that they will be treated in the same way as children born from the couple. I don't know the legal standpoint, but I doubt adopted children would be treated any different from children who aren't.
