Are there any benefits from energy drinks when doing weights at the gym?

I go to the gym first thing in the morning straight out of bed, have a glass of water and take a bottle of water with me. My session takes about 70 mins including a 10 min warm up.
By the time I'm done I usually feel pretty drained and wondered if I might be holding myself back a little by not eating first. I can guarantee everyone here will tell me to do so, but I don't have time and getting up even earlier isn't an option. My gf won't appreciate it :p

So anyhow something like Lucozade Sport Lite? Any good to drink instead of my cup of water on the way there?

I have a good diet the rest of the time and aside from one cup of tea, I only drink water all day. I rarely drink alcohol so it's not like unhealthy drinks are an issue for me. :)

Yeah, coffee? That's not a good idea. I mainly drink water all day to stay hydrated.

What I'm looking for is a tad more energy when at the gym without having to eat unless it something fast like a relevant snack bar. :)

I'm sure I read coffee before a gym session was acceptable somewhere, a quick google brings up a lot of info on the topic.

Ok generally I wouldn't waste your money, but considering the alternative is fasted weights training I'd say go for it. If you can afford to buy some BCAA's adding 15g to whatever you drink will help too, not in terms of feeling drained, but the effects of fasted weights training on your muscles.

I'd personally recommend this:

You could also try these as I think they work out cheaper than your standard lucozade type product:

Or you could make your own, but that might be getting to be a little complicated...

You can use discount code MP96516 for 5% off your first order from Myprotein :)

What are you trying to achieve at the gym? If you want to grow then you should fuel yourself appropriately. Not doing so is not going to help you grow.

Coffee's absolutely fine for a pep up for the gym.

If you're going early in the morning, I'd suggest eating a banana or something to give you a bit of energy. Furthermore, followed by a healthy protein rich breakfast post workout.

I tried weight training in the morning a few times, it was so bad compared to late afternoon for me :(
All those nutrients throughout the day really make the difference.

I train first thing, fasted. Find it absolutely fine, I take some caffeine about 30 mins before I go. I'm not a fan of coffee so have pills. Personally I prefer training first thing, gym's not as busy and clears your head for the rest of the day.

However reading up a bit I'm thinking about some BCAA's beforehand aswell? I've noticed my strength gains have slowed considerably but just put this down to me being on a perpetual cut? (133kg last christmas, 98kg now aiming for 80-85 before I bulk which I absolutely cannot wait for)

I go to the gym a couple of mornings a week before breaky, but thats only to do cardio. I usually try to get the weights in nearer the end of the day as I find eating during the day deff helps fill out the muscles with nutrients and I can lift more.

(Although after moving from Aussie last July, by lift more it really means less than before :(, but working on that now after a good 6 months lazy period...)

Eat more.

You should be able to train fasted without any problems. Training fasted is of course different to training having eaten so you will of course feel different.

Yeah the trouble with eating more is I put on weight easily :)
I go to the gym to control this. I spotted Lucozade Sport 'Lite' in Asda earlier. 4 bottles for £2. I've bought some to give it a try :)

I train on an empty stomach and sip water during my workout, followed by a protein drink after.

Willpower > Energy drinks.
