Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I used JV1 for a few days before reverting to JS8.

JVK is very good and better than JS8 imo. Seems very stable so far and bugs in JV1 seem to have gone.

Also, for anyone who loves that Gingerbread lock screen animation, it is possible to get it on your SGS, but not perfectly. In order not to wear out the power button (need to keep this phone for 2 years+!), I've mapped lock screen to a swipe of the app drawer button (using launcherpro). You can download a program from the market called 'screen off and lock' and then map the gesture on the launcherpro dock to run that app. In the configuration settings, you can select 'delay lock' and then choose an animation. I think it's called 'old tv'. Very cool! If you didn't understand that, ask me to clarify and I will.

That's pretty awesome! Setting the animation to Swipe (Bottom to Top) works well with the swipe gesture on the Launcher Pro dock.

Just a recommendation for a useful bit of kit for anyone who likes to try and brick there SGS...my phone is fine at the moment but i bought this jig to get into download mode from a UK seller on ebay for £5. Tested by me and works a treat.

You don't need a jig if your phone enters download mode the normal way, it's only for phones that can't enter download mode using the 3 button method.

hi
had a galaxy s when they first come out and found the lag annoying so ended upe getting rid. now ive been reading around and seems that once youve rooted it and applied the current lag fixes the phone is suppossed to be lag free

can anyone confirm this or does it still suffer from lag now and again

thanks

Using Darkys Rom 9.5 I have Voodoo lagfix enabled. It makes a small difference but nothing major because of how far newer roms went to correct the issue.

Being totally new to custom roms and what have you, I was a little apprehensive about doing it on my phone. However, after a couple of squeaky bum moments I managed to flash my phone with Darky's 9.3 and have to say the phone is now fantastic. The battery life has doubled and the phone is so snappy and responsive now, It's perfect for me.

I noticed there is now a 9.5 Darky's Rom and was wondering if there are any noticeable benefits of 9.5 over 9.3? I flashed the speedmod kernel via odin and then followed the instructions on how to do the Darky rom. Can you go from 9.3 to 9.5? Or do you have to go 9.3 - 9.4 then 9.5? I didn't want to ask such a stupid question over on XDA in case I get eaten alive. :p

You can go straight to 9.5, but it seems that 9.3 is the least buggy and most stable release there has been for a long while. I'd stick with it until a stable Gingerbread ROM is available, at least that's my opinion. Too many reports of problems with 9.4 and 9.5.

If you read the Darky thread on XDA, you'll see the changelog for yourself.

Flashing is as simple as loading the Darky app from the market (optional), putting the new ROM on your internal SD card and flashing using CWM. If you do choose to go to 9.4 or 9.5, definitely do a wipe as well.

I've got to say the MIUI Rom is the best one I have ever used on my Galaxy S. Makes the phone SO much better. I've used stock, DocRom, Darky and loads more.

Difficult to explain, but that's the way it is!!

I've read that thread well some of it , dosn't really say what it is:confused: , and it seems once you have installed it, its not so easy to go back to another custom rom unless I am mistaken

might give u more of any idea of how it looks, im not exactly sure what it is but my friend got it on his desire once and he said its a chinese rom that makes your phone similiar to an iPhone, never tired it personally.
