I don't know about it being gay but I do struggle to see the point as if I'm ever carrying more than will easily fit into my pockets a rucksack is the more sensible option. Or if it is papers then a folder or briefcase is the more natural option.

Maybe at some point in the future handbags will be seen as being very masculine. Gender is mostly or entirely fictional and frequently changes. For example, pink was definitely masculine and then rapidly changed to being extremely feminine and then back to being a fashionable colour for a man to wear, all in less than 100 years.
