Who is this Ed Milliband chap?

milliband is a lot more left leaning than blair or brown, so of course the party is going to go that way, look at the people he has in his shadow cabinet. He has to criticise the government thats his job as HM's leader of the opposition, plus its so easy to drive a wedge between clegg and DC as their two parties are so different politically

Politics student of 5 years, I know the role of the leader of the opposition ;)

My point was more that he deliberately made a statement about the AV referendum today not being about party politics, yet at the official press conference for a yes vote on AV he banged on for the majority of the time about 'evil' Tories. I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if his morning comments had not been made.

Hmm, when you argue against a sensible idea, just because you are the opposition, then it will make you look foolish.

I don't see many constructive ideas coming from the Labour camp, just denials and petty point scoring.

About as good an opposition leader as a puddle of dog urine........actually..thsts being rude to urine.

I cant help but think hes the type that if he went to get angry he sould throw a slap and only make a wet sound.

just like david cameron when he was the other side of the box in the commons, the opposition rarely agree with policies of the other parties, thats why you need a majority because the opposition will vote against your bills

love how people have resorted to personal attacks on milliband,

Little else to attack they have absolutely no policies.
Each public announcement is immediately followed by Milliband standing up and saying they shouldn't be cutting this, there is an alternative way, the way of not cutting this and bankrupting the county.
Personal attacks become very valid when he becomes the spokeperson for idiocy.

The people in the shadow cabinet were not chosed by ed miliband, it is done by vote by labour mps. The leader then assigns them positions.

They are there to hold the government to account, to give other options and voice opposing views, not just criticise. They have a duty to help their consituents and that includes ensuring that the correct options are chosen even if it means siding with the government.

This is quite painful to read... I am no fan of Ed Miliband, but the man is leader of the opposition with the prospect of being four years out from an election. Please remind me what David Cameron's party manifesto was contained 2005/2006. :p

It is standard for the opposition party to be opportunistic, and it is more than reasonable to keep your options open this far away from an election. I remember when Gordon Brown used to point out, in 2009, that David Cameron had no alternatives whatsoever to Labour party policy, and he was absolutely right.

If you're going to complain about the fact Ed is light on policy at the moment, you have to do it for all.

The fact that Ed Milliband was elected via an AV system is possibly the best argument against an AV system there is. :D

Though I agree that the Labour leadership election result was absolutely ridiculous, both the fool that actually won it, and the fact that another candidate was in first place until the fourth round of voting, AV would rarely produce such a result.

Now this I like. :D I expected David to get the job of Labour leader. I really fear for Labour's electoral chances with Ed in charge. The Tories could walk it next time round and not even need a Lib Dem coalition. Some people might be OK with that but it'd be nice to at least have an election with 3 parties able to win power and not just the Tories on their own.
