I just found out that Halifax have removed the online payment option for credit cards from their website. Wouldnt be that bad as they also have an option to set up a direct debit over the phone, but thats only allowed if you have a bank account with Halifax of Bank of Scotland, which I dont.

How the heck do they expect me to pay off my balance? I dont want to have to go into my bank with my statements to pay it off. I'm often at work until after the banks closing time. Very inconvienient!

Your credit card statement will provide you with both the sort and account number to make an online payment.

You don't need a list to pay them.

The option is gone from the website. They specifically made a point of posting an update about it. And yes I'm sure about the phone option. When you call the number it specifically tells you they only accept payment from those banks.

I assume you don't have a bank account with Halifax? (if you do you can just add the credit card details as a recipient and pay it that way)

It annoyed me when they changed it but I have a current account on there anyway so I can still make an online payment but its less user friendly

Can you not make the payment from your other account using the other accounts online banking system?

I've got the exact same problem, trying to pay my halifax credit card but my bank account is with yorkshire and there is no option to pay with that. Only option it gives me is to open a new bank account with halifax which i don't want to do.

Looks like i might have to go into a halifax branch and pay by cash.

I have the Halifax Credir Card and now pay it through my main bank account like I do with my M&S CC every so often.

The account info is setup so next month I just the link, type the value in, job done :)

Are you not able to transfer money from your own bank's online account service?

This is how I pay my Tesco card. I can do it on the Tesco website, but it's easier to set up a transfer from my current account online service (which happens to be Halifax for me but pretty much all banks have an online account service), you just need the receiving account number and sort code (on your paper statement as mentioned already).

When was this change made?

I used the Halifax website to make a payment from my current account to my credit card just this morning... It's done via transfers just like everything else (e.g. bill payment). Their website was updated a few months ago, and things used to be arranged a little differently, but as far as I know everything is still there somewhere.

I think he means he hasnt got a current account with Halifax just a Credit Card...and there is no option on the CC page to do this, however on the Current account page there is the option to 'Make a payment' but he doesnt have this...

the online banking on halifax tells you the sort code etc that you need to use to make a normal bank transfer style payment from any account, i pay it from my first direct account like this.

A friend of mine used to work for the Halifax web department as a programmer, he has since been let go as they all had to re-interview for their own jobs in London because of the merger with Lloyds and didn't want to move back to London.

He said before he left that because Lloyds is the bigger bank their systems are going to take precedence and this is the reason the Halifax online banking service is doing down the toilet in terms of functionality.

Your only option is to close any Halifax accounts and move, telling them why when you do. Who knows maybe in 5 years they will have implemented a better system but I doubt it.

I've never once had any problems with my Halifax online service - it does everything I need it to, it does it quickly, and there's nothing I can really think of that needs improvement.

They've given it a major overhaul in the past 12 months which is going live at the end of April too.

Well looks like i'll have to pay my cc before they get that up and running, the new system has taken some adjustment, luckily years ago my cc was setup with the account as a direct debit, so all i have to do is go into payments and select it from the drop down.

It's a pain not being able to see the balance, but i know what it roughly is plus im paying it and them off and moving to first direct eventually.
