It is one of the most dangerous thing anyone can do, however sometimes it feels like the right thing to do.
Many a good samaritan has been killed doing it and from my experience most people look away.

So the question is: A fight is about to start which you feel you can stop.
Do you let them get on with it or do you intervien?

Baring in mind bouncers and Police do this for a living.

No.

If two people wish to fight I prefer being one of many people who gather around to look and go "ooh...".

If a loved one was involved, then I would fly in.

Like a machine.

And kill them all to death.

Like 50 times.

Depends. If its a fair fight, mano a mano, and theyre both the same size then I'll walk on.

But if its 2 on 1, or 2 big guys hassling some young small lads then I'll probably have a word.

Saw a woman getting slapped about by some guy in Edinburgh a few years back. A random guy stepped in to help the woman out and then they both started on him. They gave him a pretty good thrashing, too. A passing police car stopped and sorted it all out but it can be dangerous to get involved in something you know nothing about.

This has happened to me, but to a lesser degree - I saw a girl get football kicked in the stomach, It made me feel sick just to see it so I gripped the lad and she flew into a rage screaming "get off my boyfriend"

That wouldn'[t have happened outside the cab voltaire would it?

I wouldn't step in unless like others have said it was an unfair fight or a friend/family member was involved.

Only if I had my keyboard with me.

Pubs are dangerous places these days - so many people seem to have an axe to grind (or something up their nose!)

Make sure to take a wireless keyboard as the lead might not reach if you go out.

No, it happened at the top of Cockburn Street. A Saturday afternoon, broad daylight. It was pretty weird.

It would be very unlikely unless it was someone I loved involved, then as with most people I would imagine you put there safety before yours.

I have done in the past, but you need to be confident you can put a stop to it, using only proportional force, which is the problem...

I think this is the best policy (and certainly the policy that the Police would advise) - in most cases.
It usually ends up backfiring on the good samaritan.

Another hypothetical question then:
You are in prison (never have been - don't intend to) It's a dog-eat-dog world.
A smaller lad is getting bullied and finally snaps and goes to attack the bully - you know he is going to get killed would you stop him before the first punch is thrown?
Or is it mearly a man on man challenge that has to be duked out?

I am now thinking the latter - unless it comes personally knocking on your door stay well clear.
