Black Screen During Driver Install

Hi again,

So following on from my woes of trying to enable SLI for the first time last night I now find I have a new problem. Feeling a bit like a 'noob' on this one but I need some help/advice.
To cut a long story short, I was trying to enable SLI after installing a second identical GTX260 yesterday evening. Both cards work and are viewable in device manager. I was experiencing a severe hang when 'applying settings'. As a result, and after not being able to roll back I performed a clean install of Windows 7.
Subsequently, when I try and install the latest NVIDIA drivers 266.xx, the installation begins after selecting which type of install I want to perform and then the screen goes black. The only way to get out of it is to restart the machine and in doing so cancel the installation of the drivers. If I repeat the process, the same thing happens.

Specs are listed:
GIGABYTE X58 (SLI stamped).
2 x BFG GTX 260 O/C MC55.
i7 950 @ 4.2Ghz.
Corsair AX750 PSU.

Am I missing something or can anyone make any suggestions?

Regards,

Adam.

I had the same problem tonight installing AMD drivers.

what i did was to boot up in safe mode and use driver sweeper, then reboot again as normal, did a reg clean then re-install the drivers, this worked for me

Read the OP's previous thread.

Driver Sweeper did him no good last time and, anyway, this is a fresh installation so there's nothing to sweep.

To the OP - Are you trying all this installation overclocked to 4.2GHz?

If there's any instability this may be causing your issues.

Perhaps try going back to stock speeds while doing the installation.

Read the OP's previous thread.

He says he's verified both cards work.

Thanks for keeping an eye out Surveyor... We are bang in business. Installed the latest BETA 270 drivers and solved all my problems and managed to activate SLI as well. A good night had by all!
