Hi All...
I picked up the above monitor today for what im told by my mate is 'a ridiculous price'.
Can anyone here tell me if this is a decent monitor to play todays games with and do a bit of video editing etc.
Thank you

Hi there,

Was it advertised as a 24 or 27in? The Dell 2407WFP is a 24in monitor.

It is a decent monitor for games, but for stuff like video editing the high resolution and high-quality S-PVA panel will really shine.

May I ask how much you picked it up for?

hiya Andi...just got my tape measure out - bottom left to top right corner almost 24 inches so i stand corrected in my title for this post.
Paid £40 (forty), from work colleague. i have hooked it up to my 10 year old althon xp system with an old geforce 4200 ti card...everything seems to work fine.
The stand has a couple scratches on it but other than that all seems to functioning and looking proper.

Wow, i have been doing some asking around too and it does seem that i have landed myself a bargain.
I think my colleague may have made a gaffe with this one.
Im going to be building a new system for myself later on this year..will be used for casual gaming, casual video encoding/editing as well as the normal stuff one does so i think this monitor may well suffice.
Having said all that, i just seen the thread where everyone has their monitors on display - and i must say a 3 monitor set up does look rather nice.

£40 that was a real bargin :D

Make sure you calabrate it though the normal stock settings look good but once you have played around with the colour settings for awhile you can get an amzing picture quality :)

Press the menu tab then go to presets then custom, if I could reamber what I had set my 2407 to I would tell you seemed to work quite good.

Tbh just google I just copied some one elses settings then tweaked them alittle untill I got it how I liked it :)

All calibrated and working well with win xp. Just need to make decision on new build now so I can really enjoy it's benefits. I'm in no rush. Sandy bridge or ivy bridge, p67, h67 or z68 lol. Decisions decisions.

I have a later firmware version of this monitor (early ones had issues, later ones were regarded as one of the best for quality).

However, for the last two summers (and starting again this week), it has suffered a well known problem with this monitor of overheating. I have a deskfan I put on when its warm to stop it overheating and thats fine. You can spot the overheating problem as the screen goes black but power light stays green. It was a model flaw but keep an eye on the heat from the top of the monitor.

Quality of picture though is superb.

Yes i have noticed it get warm a tad but nothing to be to concerned about at the moment to be honest. Like i said its hooked up to the really old set up you see in the sig and im sure its not being tested very much at all by that. It does get warm at the top but i get no black screens or the like, all seems to be working well.
When i get my new build built then no doubt something like a geforce 560ti will put it through its paces.

You've got a real bargain. The 2407WFP is a terrific monitor, I paid £180 for mine and it's worth every penny and more.

I bought mine new, years ago, on offer from dell, and i still use it to this day.
Best investment I made in computer equipment.
For £40, I'd buy 2 more tomorrow if given the offer.
Great deal OP.
