I went to London the other day for the first time in years. I went to Euston station and around there, covent garden and knightsbridge. Now I always here people complain how London is full chavs, is dirty and full of immigrants/non-whites.

Where I went everywhere was clean, safe, not single chav/hoody and very, very few non white people. Very different from the impression I get about London. Why is this?

Because you went to somewhere that is nice. others are talking about normal places that people live and socialise.

There's a hole in the world like a great black pit
and the vermin of the world inhabit it
and its morals aren't worth what a pig could spit
and it goes by the name of London.
At the top of the hole sit the privileged few
Making mock of the vermin in the lonely zoo
turning beauty to filth and greed...
I too have sailed the world and seen its wonders,
for the cruelty of men is as wonderous as Peru
but there's no place like London!

Covent Garden = tourists, Knightsbridge = tourists and rich people. I don't know how you managed to see Euston in a clean, immigrant/chav free state - it's a dump most of the time.

You went to decent areas.

London is like any city inasmuch as it has good areas and bad areas. There are some beautiful, beautiful places here, and some terrible ones.

Euston's hit and miss. Depends which way you walk when you go out the station.

Forgot to add there was no big issue sellers or beggers. Surely it can't be that hard to hoodys to make there way to where we went?

They can't afford to go there.

It was expensive down there. Average price for a pint was £4.50 and a meal in pub was £10 minimum.

London is a brilliant city. The bad press it gets is the equivalent of buyer's remorse from northerners who internally regret living in filth.

Is that where you deal your coke? :D

Yes. Come on down!

I just checked where Canary Wharf is and it says East London. I thought the east wasn't suppose to be very wealthy?

There's a hair's breadth between good and bad in East London. The place was all disused docks in the early 80s and then the whole thing got radically improved over 16 years.

Here are some photos of Canary Wharf, and even these don't really do it justice.

Here are my photos of my local area, round Surrey Quays and Island Gardens.

Canary Wharf is one of the major financial districts of London, where global corporations have headquarters. It is a very rich area. Like major cities, you'll have the well to do areas and the poor areas. The areas you went to are the richer, well off areas.
