Hey,

As the title suggests just after some advice as to which version is better value in the long run seeing as though the "Special Edition" is on special offer at the moment for £199 compared to £239 for the Super OC.

Ta.

On paper the SOC version is the best one. However I've seen some people having issues with the stability of the card on these forums. Apparently the overclock is not stable on all the cards. So if you wanna be on the safe side you might wanna get the special edition

I may be being a bit thick but is the SOC physically any different (cooler etc) or is it just pre overclocked?

Would i be able to overclock the special edition?

AFAIK they are physically identical. One has a different BIOS on it with the factory overclock.

You can indeed overclock the SE version and possibly to the same stable level as the SOC card.

Hmm just seen the MSI GeForce GTX 570 is on special offer for £239 as well, ah choices!

Is this one maybe worth the extra as its got the newer design plus it runs quieter (heard the 480 can sound like a jet).

I hate making these decisions when they involve so much money!

Cheers for the replies, seems to me that the special edition is the one to go for seeing as though its £40 cheaper then?
Yes go for the SE. The SoC seems to be a lottery at the moment... so go with the SE and be happy with what you have.... You also do not get drawn into the Soc debate.
I have the SoC and have no issue with it at all... even OC to 870 without problem ( although temps go to 90oC so backed down to stock ).

What resolution you running. If 1920x1080 go for the 570. Less power, less heat, and OC it to the max.

Just what i would do.... :D

PS:- got my 480 SoC before the 570 offer... :(

i do not think so... 570 clocked would smoke the 480 SoC @ 1920x1080.... same cores just less memory , which at this resolution should not cause an issue.....
got for it....

Final question (honest) for £199 theres the XFX 6950 2GB if i unlocked this to a 6970 is that not a better option than the 570, or is the 570 highly regarded round these parts?

480 SOC = 580 standard (roughly)
570 = 6970 or 6950 flashed
580 = better than the 570/6970

Basically, the 480 SOC is nearly as good as a 580 for half the price. It also is extremely quiet. I had a 6970 and my 480 SOC is considerably better (in the games I play)and quieter.
