VAT free loop hole to be closed by budget

£18-£15 does what to companies selling albums?

Shouldn't the music industry be up in arms about this? ;)

They won't be affected by this but the punters buying DVDs, box sets, electronic items from the isle across the sea (and others) will be.

If prices go up it could be used as an excuse to pirate more music.

doubt it for the sake of a couple of quid, the pirates will do their thing and honest folks pay the extra bit, extra revenue and protection for UK retailers, sounds a good idea to me

I agree, it's why I said "excuse" :)

just noticed it is just down to £15, surely it would be better to reduce it to zero

I don't think they can due to EU rules, that's why it needs discussion with the EU.

That would be a nightmare! It means all the crappy things like documents don't need a customs entry on import, same for small perishable things like flowers, or even things like family photos. Removing the de minimus limit would cause more hassle than solve!

Locally they already clamped down on non Jersey businesses using the de minimus limit to sell goods from the island.

£18 to £15 does not seem like a huge deal but no doubt it's a primer to something bigger.

Not sure how this is saving the taxpayer money... surely it's just making the IR more? Does that mean IR will make the rest of us pay less? Can't see that happening myself :p
