Can police use 'stingers' against bikes?

im sure i heard that then can BUT only if the rider is in full leathers and a Helmet,

If you are on the run from the police and you dont have a helmet they will leave the chase and find you later on if that makes sence,

But then again i dont know if this is true

I think its stupid cops cant give chase to that guy who stole bikes with no lid (well he came a cropper anyway). Same as the stinger argument. Oh no its too dangerous for the poor thieves! I say hurl stakes between their wheels tbh ;)

It does make me wonder how easy it could be to plan a gettaway. Just make for a populated area on an stolen bike with no helmet and you're sorted. Just throw stingers behind you once you get on the open road and its all win win :)

If a guy came off the bike in a panic before getting to the stinger it would shred them.

Not that I would want to see this tested, but I imagine they would use whatever means neccessary, depending on the crime.

If, for example, you were on a bike riding through nottingham doing drive by's, they wouldn't hesitate to use whatever it took to stop you, whether you get arrested or end up in a big mac.

On the other hand, if you jumped a red light, I think they'd just follow you until you either fall off from pressure, take a detour down a narrow path, or until a Subaru Impreza (used for recreation purposes, obviously) undertakes the coppers.

I am confused by the news articles relevance?

It was irrelevant to the OP but was in continuation to the flow of the thread about how police aren't allowed to give chase. The article I posted was about how police were fined because "he ran too fast" while giving chase to a criminal.

Tyre deflation devices cannot be used on bikes. I would bet money this is applicable nationally, but I only know for absolute certainty for Hampshire Constabulary. Advanced tactics also can only be used in certain circumstances from what I remember.

Are the cops up there allowed to even do the pit maneuver on cars?

Ours cant :(

We can under extreme circumstances by tactically trained drivers. It's very rare that it's used though as obviously a dynamic risk assessment by the police officers concerned needs to be carried out for it to be 'safe'.

they could do it yes... if they want to risk a charge of manslaughter or possibly even murder

the point of a stinger is to take out the tyres of a car making it impossible to accelerate and harder to control but not impossible and fairly safe, they dont use them on corners so mostly when used the cars will simply roll on the rims until the driver realises its hopeless and stops

doing the same to a bike would most certainly commit the rider to a collision with the tarmac
