It's not *the* Eddie Stobart though is it, it's his son. The other son has been in charge of the business since 2004 reading that.
Who else is it going to be![]()
As has been explained in this thread and in the article, it's 'Eddie Stobart's' (ie. the guy that the company is named after) son. It's only newsworthy because he has the same name. If it had been some other name like John Smith or even William Stobart that had taken over the business and left 7 years ago then it wouldn't be in the papers and there certainly wouldn't be a thread about it.
Erm the original Eddie Stobart didn't do much in the way of making the company as well known or as successful as his son, so I'd say it was pretty newsworthy.
I have beeped the horn and power saluted many a Eddie Stobart truck on the motorways.
I hope he is at peace.
The company was formed in the 1950s, the same time as Edward Stobart Jnr was born. Sure he did a lot for the company but do you honestly think it would be newsworthy if someone called "Peter Jennings" had taken over the company, improved it and then left 7 years ago?
Sad to hear he died so young sure, but don't kid yourself most people reading the story aren't deliberately led to believe this is 'Eddie Stobart', who the company was named after.
Whilst it isn't the Eddie Stobbart the company is named after, it IS the Eddie who expanded and created the company that we know and see on the motorways today.

I'm not saying it isn't, the news articles are only there because of his name though. I'll try another example, if someone called Richard Thompson expanded the Hertz car rental company and then left in 2004 would it make a thread here in 2011 if he died? Just because we see a lot of Hertz rental cars on the motorway?
I'm not trying to be an arse or anything, it just makes me roll my eyes how the news articles are deliberately misleading people into believing its the guy who started the company who has sadly passed.
Dont worry mate, when i go they will put 3 lines in the South London Press, " he supported the scotch industry for the last 10 years "![]()
"Single handedly saved 50 brasses in Peckham from going out of business in the 90s"![]()

Followed by faithful husband and loving father, he owned more Jags than was good for him!
