Looking to pick up a 6950.

Should I go for the bog standard one or the Frozr II one from MSI?
Presumably either are flashable to 6970?

I don't think Frozr II can be flashed. Frozr III/Lightning can be but no BIOS switch if you screw things up so I'd go for the bog standard reference one if you want to flash.

Best check that's flashable first, otherwise it looks decent enough.

Basically go for any reference model. I don't think powercolor do a 2GB version and I'm not sure if the 1GB ones can be unlocked.

edit: I would go for this one if buying off OcUK http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-119-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752 its been shown to unlock, good price and MSi have decent customer support in the UK.

You're after a Revision.1 Really if you want to unlock the shaders

Sorry folks when you say revision 1, you basically mean the no fancy revisions with new fans etc?
Presumably a vanilla 2GB 6950?
Whatabout the XFX?

Yes the XFX will unlock as well. I haven't seen anything that has been specifically labelled as Rev.1 or anything else so not sure how you could tell but people are still buying and unlocking successfully.

Ah on the XFX it says "Features:-
- ATI Reference Design (Revision: 1) - Flashable too 6970" as does the MSi but not the sapphire

I have a 6950 now flashed it too 6970 works well Xfx brand
