Crack in back of iphone near head phone socket,.

Phone is unlocked and jailbroken so cant really take to a apple store.

Any one recommend a repair place pref in south east?

I actually have a rear housing but it looks very complicated to replace.

restore it then take it back to apple (back up your SHSH blobs first - that way if apple refuse to replace it then at least you can put the old firmware back on it)
The cracks are a known fault and apple quite often just replace the handset even when out of warranty.

i wouldnt have a clue how to restore it. Sorry, i managed to jailbreak it by sheer fluke i think. Im not that good at things like that

Just plug it into iTunes and restore to factory settings, simple.

whats the guarantee they will replace it out of warranty?

There is no guarantee, but just tell them it cracked during some form of normal use due to wear and tear and that you are very upset, and you might be surprised.

Yup - done that in the past and was 6 month out of warranty. I'd had it in an Icipio feather all its life and only noticed the crack when i took it out.

They were full of apologies and replaced it on the spot.

mines well out of warranty but have no idea how to get it back to its former state, is it as simple as above.?

Yup - Really is that simple - plug it into itunes and restore it - job done!
