But yeah this is clearly BS, I am pretty sure the operator will ask you some basic questions first and I don't think "My dog is dying" would really be grounds for them to dispatch an ambulance...

Exactly - I can't believe one person didn't ask 'what did you say when you dialled 999?'.

I had to do it a couple of months ago when a guy fell out of his wheelchair at the local train station. I was on the line* being given advice and relaying information right up until the paramedic arrived.

*Edit: Not the train line. :p
