You have absolutely no idea what a Virtual Machine is do you?

XP Mode is just a free copy of XP to run in a virtual machine. As far as XP is concerned it is running on real hardware and has zero knowledge of the Windows 7 host. You can't magically share software between a host and VM anymore than you can magically share software installed between two physically separate computers.

If you already own XP, why on earth did you want XP Mode?

Your lack of research is why you are down £80. ;)

They haven't misled anyone. You simply haven't researched before forking over £80 for something.

What did you expect it to do?

i didn't expect anyone here to be on my side i expected it to be the all empowering thing Microsoft made it out to be ...... and not a old windows system but don't worry my message has got out there thanks for helping :D

Fort?

Really?

As for this:

i fort it would work in 64bit mode or at least a virtual 64 bit mode ? with 32bit programs

I don't even understand what you're saying here.

Start at step 1. Why did you think "hey, I will buy WIn7 because..." what was the reason?

As mentioned, MS have not mislead anyone. XP mode is just that, a mode delivered via a virtual machine.

The great thing about XP Mode is when you install a legacy app in XP Mode it shows up on the Windows 7 Start Menu under Windows Virtual PC so you can launch that app directly within the virtual machine BUT it looks like it's been run locally from WIn7 so you don't physically need to run XP mode just to run a legacy application, just launch the application and let Windows launch it via the virtual machine.

Do you actually have applications which don't work natively in Windows 7 then?
If you don't then you really don't need to be using this, but if you do and your wanting XP x64 support then really that's beyond the scope of XP Mode... it's there to provide a quick and easy way to run legacy apps which have compatibility problems with 7.

u all as a collective say its my fault for none research but i bought on marketing sales adverts so and so .... i never saw any add say win 7 64bit XP Mode is just XP Pro ? didn't find out till too late

Not sure if serious.jpg

What marketing ads? The only ads I have seen have been ones about XP Mode being used for older apps, not as a completely new revamped XP. I think you've just misunderstood the whole point of XP Mode and the age old saying stands here, that if you need to ask, you don't need it.

is anyone here still trying to help me ? or just boasting there knowledge or put me down ? ....... its got so bad i forgot what i wanted help for ill ask again tomorrow night

Help?

You didn't post anything asking for help in a particular area, instead you did a Bill O'Reilly about XP Mode and how MS have somehow mislead you when in fact you were too lazy to find out what a virtual machine and XP Mode actually is let alone take in an advert without misunderstanding it completely.

yes u are wright maybe i posted in wrong thread to have a go at Microsoft, but woz very merry and a bit peeved, but not lazy just assumed, wrongly it would now seem, that "XP mode" would be something new ?

I sometimes miss the pre-internet days, stupidity had less of a voice back then.

I am not stupid, I'm just less initiated ...... but if u don't ask u don't learn, some people would be put off posting here at OC reading this thread :(

All the adverts ever said about XP mode was its ability to let you run older applications.

Microsoft said:
It's the best of both worlds: The new Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop.
Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website.

Going from the above, how on earth did you arrive at the conclusion XP Mode was some kind of magical 64-bit Windows XP/7 hybrid or whatever?

Microsoft did not mislead anyone. Microsoft provide all the info you need through the above link on what XP Mode is, what it does and how to use it. There are scores of other website that has information on XP Mode. You cannot blame a company for you imagining things about a feature they were very clear about. You also cannot blame a company for not doing any of your own research. You must be a salesman's dream punter if you are like this with all your purchases.

As for the reception you have gained I can only say you sort of deserved it. Misdirected, misinformed rants and implying we're using our knowledge just for browbeating purposes doesn't go down terribly well.

this is a marketing thing they did and it worked as far I'm concerned i didn't go to any web sites i just assumed it would better

hey at least i get answers here, i don't most other online forums i ask for help from, the criticism comes from inexperience ........ we all learn from our mistakes and maybe i did learn something here

but know one likes been made to be little or small know matter how unexperienced they are, keep that in mind, on your pedestal
