Hi Guys

Thinking of getting either the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler £18
or Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 High Performance CPU Cooler £26 for my AMD 955

Which do you think is better i cant find any comparison graphs.I think the 13 comes with pre appliex Arctic MX-4 but doesn't say on the overclockers site.

I cant stand my 955 any longer when i play a game and a tornado kicks off in my case for a good half hour after i finish lol.

Any help is welcome :)

Thanks

I wouldn't get the Freezer 7 since I've read a handful of posts about bad temps with AMD setups.

You would probably be better to get the Titan Fenrir for £33 if you can.

I did look at that but it is a big cooler and i only have an xigamatek asgard case(budget lol) plus i would need some decent paste as well i think.

Just put a zalman flex on mine. Easy to fit and faces the right way. You will need to add a an though unless you have a spare one. Paired mine with the akasa apache which is nice and quiet but will take you a bit over budget. Temps have improved by about 6 degrees idle. Not checked with clocking yet due to problems with my board.

Best cheap cooler you'll find these days. Makes the freezer 7 look like an armatures attempt but really it's just dated design.

212s are difficult to come by atm, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-029-CM&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395 , you'll have to show around to find one. One of the very few am3 coolers mounting east.west which is really the freezer 7 main problem (less heatpipes, fins and smaller fan aside :)).

Whats the paste that comes with it like? Am i best buying some more as ive never applied paste before.Thats 1 of the reasons i was looking at the arctic pair as it has pre applied paste.

paste it comes with works fine, Just remember to spread it thinly on the cpu and not a blob as it won't spread due to the eneven surface of the heatpipes.

+1 for the hyper 212
its the best cooler in that budget
also for paste, there are loads of vids on how to do it on youtube

Ok.Will prob get this if i can get it from a reputable retailer :) cheers. How quiet is it for gaming.Thats my main problem with the stock fan. After 20 mins gaming it goes crazy loud so much that after ive finished playing a game i have to shut it down if i go to watch tv as it is that annoying.

I can't tell you how loud it is, but the speed should be adjustable within your bios or via speedfan software which is free should you need to tone it down a little.

Ok my hyper 212 plus has arrived :) Does anybody know of any beginner guides for installing this on an AM3 cpu .Im noob and the manual is a waste of paper .I assume i have to take the motherboard out and fit back plate etc.

Cheers

Board out fit backplate. Board in and adjust clamp do up nuts. The instructions are not bad tbh. Biggest tip is do not blob the thermal paste, spread a thin layer over the chip as the cooler base is not flat and the blob method does not work.
