I've got a couple of camera bags already for when I'm out on a dedicated shooting session (fitting body, lenses, and various other gubbins) but I'm now looking for a smaller bag that I can use as a general day bag (whilst travelling to/from work) that will also house my camera (with one lenses fitted) when needed.

Ideally something in the style of a record bad/shoulder bag, but smaller; needs to hold my ipad, phone, wallet and obviously camera.

Anyone know of anything relevant?

LowePro Classified 160AW, fits the iPad nicely, enough room for camera +1/2 lenses or flash + lens.

I've handled a few of them instore and I will most likely get one for myself when the new Galaxy Tab comes out.

I just put my camera inside a cloth bag and then in my leather messenger bag. It's not a dedicated camera bag (made by Ted Baker) so it no one really knows I got a camera in there. It's big enough for 5D with 1 lens such as the 35L. I would think I struggle to fit in a 70-200 though. I do have to be careful not knock it around when walking and don't throw it down on any hard surfaces.

It works, even went to Rome and Hong Kong like that.

The Lowepro Classified 160 looks good but slightly too bulky, wondering if the Lowepro Classified 140 would hold an ipad, if so that would be ideal (especially in the sepia colour).

I considered messenger bags (and putting added protection on them) but so far nothing seems to suit, it's the knocking/banging that concerns me especially when on a packed train.

Hadley Billingham Pro - mine fits a semi-pro body (D200 or D700) with a standard zoom (17-55 or 24-70) on, a 50/1.4 and 70-200 f2.8 plus an iPad in the back pocket and filters, memory cards, batteries etc in the front ones. Or swap the 70-200 for an FM2+35/1.4 AIS or an SB800 no problem. Or a camera charger, iPad charger and a few other bits.

Really comfy to carry in the hand or the shoulder strap sits a lot better than most bags (there is a science to this I've belatedly discovered, simply attaching a strap does not make all bags equal, well designed bags sit closer to the body and are much less hassle. Amazingly compact for something which fits so much in, really nice quality, gear is well padded (and the padded insert comes out so you can use it as a regular bag if you want) and waterproof.

Literally the only downside is the £140 pricetag. Unless you don't like the styling. I wouldn't even touch anything else now and I've been through virtually every manufacturers range now.

The 140 won't hold an ipad. I didn't like the lowepro 160 when I tried it because the opening to get the lens out the bag is so restrictive. You try to get the camera out quickly and it catches on the opening. It was annoying.

Instead I went for the Think Tank retrospective 20 which is head and shoulders above it in quality for £30 more ish.

How big a single lens will you be carrying?

Both the LP 160 and Think tank bags are pretty bulky but I'd use the think tank as an everyday work bag if I could afford to dump £100 on a work bag.

I bought the Lowepro Nova 180AW a while back and do not regret it. Great bag! excellent use of space, and I find it an ideal size of bag for a 450D with lens attached, second lens + flash, and there's space in the outside pockets for wallet, phone etc! Great value for money at £40! :)
