If someone wants to nick your data it's entirely possible. I know that you can install a new version of windows on a new hard drive, and add this "stolen drive" as a secondary and get "ownership" to the files.

I did it when my hard drive went awall and would die on me after around 15 minutes of use.

I think most thieves are too dumb to do that though.
 
Quick update, police installed a deadbolt, spyhole, and window locks and alarms all for free! The cost of the laptop is pretty much offset by the free security update! Win!

Great result! All they do around where I live is give you a crime number and thats it. Good to see they are trying to help make people more secure.

Make sure you get good locks everywhere and mark anything of any value with a permanent UV pen just incase they do get robbed so that you can identify them.

Why does an estate agent have keys to your home???? Possible they may have popped around or the LandLady popped around and thought, hey ill have that, or could they not have locked the door correctly on the way out, open door, open house, all they had to do was close it on the way out.

Well, the security probably costs less than policing hours spent in investigating these crimes. If it prevents a crime in future, then it's probably cheaper to do this than keep on investgating future burglaries.
 
Resurrection of old thread, etc. Didn't think it worth starting a new one.

Someone tried to break into my flat at 4am. Looks like they've taken a chisel or something to the door frame. Woke up to 4-5 bangs and I normally sleep like the dead, so must've been damn loud. Luckily they couldn't/didn't get in. Police on way, gonna get a deadlock fitted, and so on.

Anybody think its worth installing an outside CCTV camera, or will that not be worth it?

Starting a new thread would have probably been a better idea :p
 
Deadbolt ***, the chisel on the door frame was how they got into our outer door. Might be worth investing in a chain as well, just make sure It's short enough that it can't be done from outside lol
