Ok more LIVE coverage from the BMW M event in Germany! Moving on from the M3 Pick-up, BMW has now shown off a new M3 concept car based on the E90 M3 Sedan. This particular concept is destined for the recently announced Nurburgring M Festival later in the year.

The main idea behind this concept is lightweight. Think BMW M3 CSL reborn. The sedan is stripped out, but unforunatly BMW has not put out any details on what the car's weight is or other specifics. They did say that the concept is intended to slot in between the standard M3 and the focused M3 GTS, will have a limited production run, and include several surprises. I guess we will just have to wait for the M Festival in June, where BMW intends to fully reveal this car.

No, this is NOT an April's Fools.

That paint seems very glossy, and as someone on bimmerpost pointed out could it be carbon fibre body panels?
Either way, I'm excited to hear about this car, looks very nice and "individual", added to my dream car list :)

^^^Yup.

Looks more like someone has plonked ///M stuff on a normal E90 than an M3 looking like an M3. If it's a CSL reborn then why is it a saloon too? :/

How on earth did you arrive at that conclusion given it looks, bodywork wise, the same as an M3 Saloon?

What a strange opinion to have

I agree that the E92 is the better looking car but don't see why this looks like a normal E90 any more than a conventional E90 M3 does

A closer look:

It's made from M3 GTS parts.

Oh look, you've misunderstood/read, again

I agree with Morba, in that it's a horrible colour combo and makes it look like someone has just added all the M3 bits on - As in, it doesn't look as smart as a normal M3 saloon does.

If it was a different colour it would have made a world of difference.

I agree, it does look slightly disjointed in places.. But it could be the colour and lighting causing that effect.

LOL!

I remember when Auto(make up a new)car spoke of the M5 CSL.

Wonder what the 'C' in 'CSL' stands for.... ;) ... Don't call it a CSL

Its nothing short of amazing that a colour that **** could actually exist.

How lightweight?

The regular E90 M3 is 1,781Kg. If they've shed as much as the original CSL, which really is a light car, then it will be 1,671Kg, which really isn't a light car.

If they we're going for a lightweight special why wouldn't they use the E92? It's lighter to start with. I suspect I will be disappoint.

No it's not. It's 1680kg.

Grrr @ people quoting figures as fact when they are nothing of the sort.

Perhaps they were quoting CheshireDin figures? Car + 35Kg Wallet + 700Kg Gut + 1000Kg Ego

That's the figure I work on anyway... :D

My sauce shows:
E90: 1,781Kg
E92: 1,680Kg

That wrong or did you fail to read my post?

Either way it still weighs more than the moon.
