FM4 Leaked Gameplay preview

And why exactly would they pee their franchise up the wall doing something like that? Don't be daft.

TBH I could see it happening, for a start a more arcadey game would lead to more sales especially if Kinect is used and hyped to be the way to play it. Hopefully though it will be two games as such a kinect controlled arcadey racer and a more serious racer that only uses kinect for head tracking.

What the hell are you on about? This is the flagship racer for XBox. The physics engine on FM3 was pretty spot on. With the narrow development window, I can't see them scrapping that and starting again.

FM has always been accessible with it's driver aids and settings. Sure, Kinect is mentioned but only as a tool to add immersion and depth with head tracking and interactivity off the track. They say nothing of using it to actually drive, those old videos were just demos and gimmicks. Nobody could seriously try and race like that!

I'm looking forward to this, I put a lot of time in FM3. If this lives up to the hype I'll bite the bullet and get a Fanatec wheel. I've played GT5 with a wheel but it's just a mega grind. I enjoyed Forza 3 and I have the urge to get back on and gold it all for that last achievement.

If you guys didn't already know this video was meant for public release probably meaning that it was made for Gamestop corporates etc which is why they have to put all this stuff in to show they are broadening that market.

FM4 will be FM3 physics with new cars with more detail/tracks/mods/bigger multiplayer for us hardcore and then kinect/easier modes/graphics effects for mass market. 2 birds 1 stone! While delivering the perfect game for Microsoft :p

If there is weather and night/day as well, I will, literally, melt.
From the look of this I doubt there will be. If they've made the move to 16 cars on track they've obviously made some gains in the performance of the games' engine, and they've put this extra power toward rendering more car models and the associated AI.

I'm also a little disheartened by the whole 'Hollywood effects' crap. Leave that stuff to PGR and give me a physics model which would make Steven Hawking dribble.

We'll see how it goes, but I still don't see this beating the like of rFactor for me.

I have zero interest in the car porn I'd rather see more accurate suspension modelling like lifting a rear wheel on a front wheel drive during hard cornering.

Given that you can roll cars and make cars do wheelies in FM3, I'd have thought that already happened?

Or maybe it doesn't happen enough, as it were?

There isn't much to really take away from such a low res movie + a few soundbites..

I have no idea why anyone would remotely think they will dumb the physics down, I think they have a good approach with the layered approach, something it seems people can't get their heads around..

As for the physics, they need to at the very least tweak the existing parameters to give a more 'visceral'/loose trait to the cars, behlieve it or not, they already have a very complex physics modelling engine that really is so understated. Just hotlap FM3 back to back with it's rivals to see relatively how many things actually affect the handling of the car and give good feedback through the wheel, it's held back by silly 'safe' grip parameters that it seems is all most people judge the entire physics engine on. If they get the parameters right (I'd say they need to be a little artificially less then reality), and tweak a couple of minor things in the existing engine, and it'd be unequivocally the best on a console by some degree..

I'm still worried about them trashing it for people who're playing with controls / wheels. Since they're programming for the flailing arms brigade now, with their invisible steering wheels, I pretty much expect it to be dumbed down or to have a negative effect on the "real" controls.

Why is the same not true of the assists in FM3?

Because simulating traction control and adding in optional assisted braking is a world away from having to produce an engine that can ably accept input from physical controls as well as people sat on a sofa waving at a camera.

As above, it's just an extension of the assists such as auto-brake for casual gamers, hardly dumbing down the game, just introducing things for a broader market.

It's quite clear, just as FM3 did in bringing assists like auto brake and rewind to help younger and newcomers. It did little for sim fans to further the series in also upping the simulation aspects, the difficulty, extending the physics dynamics between 2WD / 4WD and requiring additional accuracy. Had it also of offered a bit more grit and level of challenge in car grip/control would have been welcomed.

From this early trailer this is looking to do much the same in broadening the userbase the game will appeal to but what does it show to expect the game will be more sim enthusiast?

Indeed many if us would like to see as much effort put into improving the racing aspects, tyrewear, damage and physics.

Don't expect it to be a rival sim to renowned PC sims but instead more of the same thing we have come to expect from console racers.

I see the video is gone now.

If it looks like its happened in Forza it's due to the inability of the tyre/wheel to properly follow the road surface. In addition to floating they also sink into the surface.

This is a real life example
