I'm seriously considering selling both my unlocked 6950's and replacing with twinfrozr 580's.
My only issue is that because of my mobo layout, the cards will be sat right on top of one eachother.
Can anyone confirm, do these cards completely contain themselves within the 2 slot layout? Are the fans slightly raised which would stop me adding the 2nd card ?
I know with the soc gigabyte cards do have slightly raised fans which do go over the 2 slots and would stop a 2nd card being added directly above.
Any info would we welcomed
 
I was that about my current card setup which turned out not to be correct
Noise and heat won't be an issue

Or use a x16 leave a slot and use the bottom x8 slot - will give you extra space for airflow and the performance difference between 2x16 and 1x8 and 1x16 will not be noticeable :)

Isnt possible TB, USB connectors and power/reset wires etc etc are in the way
It really won't be an issue sat on top of eachother, my 6950's are at the mo and airflow to the top card isn't hampered at all dispite the 2/3cm gap
Just need to know if the card is totally contained within the 2 slots
 
I have 580 SLI on a UD5 and the above pic is from my old 5970CF both on a UD5 and had no trouble with headers or USB connectors :S

the cards are contianed within thier slot only issue i had is front headphone were bit on the close side so i unplugged it

If you make a small wedge and make a small gap between cards the temps drop dramatically and you can feel the change in the air coming out.
