Looks like Tesco hace entered the used car business.

The supermarket giant claims it can offer low prices by controlling costs.

It will show detailed pictures of vehicles for sale - including any scrapes and dents - as well as a history report and fuel usage details.

It will not, however, give people the chance to test-drive vehicles. Instead, a video of the car being tested will be available for would-be purchasers.

Tesco says all vehicles will undergo a strict vetting process, including a mechanical inspection by the RAC.

The cars will come with a one month RAC warranty and the price will not be open to negotiation.

Tesco says by supplying directly to customers, there is no middle man, no expensive showroom and no salespeople on commission.
Customers find their car online, secure it with a £99 deposit, then receive a full RAC report with video and photo gallery. If the customer is happy they can collect it or have it delivered to their home for just £149.

Apparently they will be upto 20% cheaper then other dealers.

Seems pretty good but would you be willing to purchase a car without test driving it?

I don't think many would opt for this method though?

Most people want to be able to inspect/drive a car thoroughly before laying out thousands.

The whole point of this is you are buying from a trusted brand which has already professionally inspected the car for you. So all you have to do is choose which car you want online and it will be delivered to you.

Depends how cheap it is really and what the warrantly will cover (cba having a peep now). I didnt test drive my current car, purely down to it being on fleebay and being incredibly cheap with very minimal work being needed. Could be worth a look, plus its always possible to test drive the same type of car with someone else before you buy from these, if its mechanically sounds and covered in the warranty then you should be fine.

This needs caution excercised. I suggest you read the T&Cs.

Some highlights:

No test drives - and whilst you can return the car if you dont like it, you must notify them in writing and..

Please note that your Handling Fee and Delivery Fee (if applicable) will not be refunded.

Could be the most expensive test drive you ever took.

It seems to me like Carsite.com have simply licensed the Tesco name. I'm not sure what Tesco's involvement is beyond that, and the website is horrible - very little detail on the cars and no photographs either. They have a bunch of E46 photos for the E90's, for example.

They need to improve the standard of their site, but it's possible a good way of saving money!

* Cars supplied directly from original owners who are banks, lease and fleet companies

Yeah, thats me running to the hills!
