Going to Vegas for 6 nights on Sunday!
Had to come on here to vent as anticipation is through the roof! :S

We are planning on, amoung other things, to visit The Gun Store to unload some automatic weapons :) are also going to hire a Ford Mustang Convertible and drive the Grand Canyon and then back again!

Anyone got any tips? Or must see's?

go to kahoonaville at treasure island for some food, its amazing.
if you dont have loads of cash go to the tix4tonight as they do halfprice show tickets and half price dinners everyday, brilliant.
Go to the mirage and see the dolphins/tigers.

Enjoy yaself :D i loved it cant wait to go back! where are you staying?

We are staying at the Stratosphere, mainly cause thats where our friends are staying and it was super cheap, but sadly it is a bit of a way away from the main strip but I feel we can cope :)

Quite excited about driving to the Canyon! Looks like its about 4-4.5 hours to get there :s

Not sure of which route to take, seems we will have to goto the South Rim due to the West Rim being mostly dirt tracks, on a side note anyone have any tips for driving to the canyon? Or just driving in the US in general? ^^

You don't want to go to the 'West Rim' anyway as it isn't the real Grand Canyon and is owned by Native American scammers.

Yeah if you are driving in Vegas, dont let this happen to you!

And make sure you win at least this much money.

Will do my best!

Has anyone here ever driven from Vegas to the Grand Canyon south rim?

Having some problems finding directions :S

Driving: be prepared for big roads. Driving is alright and generally good standard although the interstate junctions during rush hour can be a nightmare! Be careful about hiring a convertible mustang, you're likely to get a base model with much less beef but if you find somewhere who rents performance cars you'll pay through the roof and some might try charge you more for being a tourist.

Some states are also funny about having beer out in the cabin, even if sealed. They're supposed to be covered in the "trunk".

I can't remember the name of the company but there are people who advertise on their site who will pay you to deliver their car on the other side of the country. Have a Google.

Nothing wrong with the west rim tbh gets a bad press imo, but yes it has dirt tracks. it will take you longer than 5 hours each way to the south rim but it is "bigger"!

I stayed at the strat, monorail is a good way of getting around and cheap if you use it well., there is an entrance by the sahara, or just get taxis. play blackjack with the hot women in their underwear thursday-sunday :P

Get a satnav! I added the US maps to our tom tom for less than £40 and they made the whole event totally stress free, if your only going to vegas you could pick up the western US maps for even less we landed up with the whole thing as it seemed to be the only way to get Hawaii.

Grand Canyon drive is pretty easy but it is a long way to go there and back in a day and will limit your time to explore especially with sights like the Hoover damn to stop and admire on the way. If you want something a little different I can recomend a visit to Seligman which is said to be the inspiration for the town in Pixars Cars and provides a brilliant contrast to the Glitz and Glam on show in Vegas.

South Rim is easily do-able in under 5 hrs if you don't stop, the 'West Rim' is not even on the grand canyon it's kind of like going to San Fransisco and saying you visited Alcatraz but really you visited Bird Island. It is also owned by a complete bunch of scammers who's only saving grace is they are not Nigerian so at least it is a refreshing change.

I found the Strasphere massively disapointing and slightly scary/seedy when we were there, I would only recomend a quick trip to the top to take some photos and have a go on the rides I would certainly never stay there it attracts a very distinct customer base.

Well already staying at the Strat so cant do much about that! :)

I have tom tom on my phone, but Im assuming the data costs would be astronomical if I tried to use it in the states?

Ive found directions now, to Grand Canyon Village, which seems to be the South Rim.

Doesent seem like an overly complex drive, just loonnnng :D But the drive is part of the adventure!

The place we are hiring the car from is here: http://www.dreamcarrentals.com/
Prices seem quite resonable!

Driving to the Canyon isn't as easy as you think - its a LONG way from Vegas, it's about a 7-8 hour drive really. Especially as you'll stop off at Hoover dam on the way - you can't not!

You will be far better off booking a tour there instead with a flight from North Las Vegas airport.

And you think $85 is reasonable for a DAY in a Mustang?! I hired a Mustang cab from Hertz in LA, drove to Vegas and indeed all over California, and I paid literally HALF that!

That was fully insured with zero excess as well, and inc tax. Those prices on that site are exclusive of tax and insurance coverage.

Have you done much research at all..?

Went south rim last year on a mini coach stopped off at hoover dam of course and a couple of other places. Had plenty of time at the south rim as well, loved it I would recommend it, plus you get to see other stuff on the way. Its a big day out but so what ?

Damn Fox you having a bad day?
Why you think Im posting on here? Asking for advice dude, car isnt booked yet.

I tell you what, rather than just slam me, why not offer some friendly advice?

I'm going tomorrow, 1 night in planet hollywood and 4 at the cosmopolitan.

I'm planning to go to the Premium Outlet Village (north) for some shopping and also a couple of poker tournaments. Other than that I'll see what happens. Even entertainment is covered including Pure and Marquee clubs :)

Awesome Adam :D Hope you have a wicked time!

I cant wait!

Think one of things Im most excited about is the firing range tbh! :D

Have you checked the prices? It's not cheap. That's something I wanted to do but decided against it in the end.

I'm going with work so there may be some surprises along the way. Should be a good few nights of drinking and a lack of sleep. I'll no doubt spend some time by the pool as well :)

Hope you have a good time too!
