Police Authority Question

Don't go to the interview, get them to come to you, at a time which is convenient to you.

If they ask to come in ask for a warrant :) youve done nothing wrong, so you can be as arsey as you like

DO NOT take this advice. Being intentionally evasive and abusive to the Police is about as foolish as you can get.

Just call the local station, verify the WPC's credentials, she should have given you her name/badge-number and possibly a reference to use when arriving at the Station.

Once you have done that either arrange for a solicitor to meet you at the arranged time or ask the Police to supply the duty solicitor before you enter the interview.

Do not be interviewed under caution or volunteer anything without a solicitor present.

As others said, ring the Police station first to verify they are who they say they are.
As far as I am aware, the Police which actually send an officer to your home address if they want to bring you into the station, they wouldn't ask you to come in.

Ring your location station mate. Have you got caller display?

A little update - my friend has phoned the woman and told her everything, she has given him a warning or said he's getting a warning and gave him a slap on the wrist. Now what?

To answer the "surely they'd come and get you" issue - A similar thing happened to me, the police called me up on my mobile and asked me to come to the police station at a time convenient for myself in the next couple of days. Being the helpful chap that I am, I went down the next day to see what it was all about. I gave my name to the person at the desk, said I was here for PC Plod and I was told to take a seat. 5 minutes later, Plod and her Pal came out, arrested me, and led me away for an interview, DNA swab, fingerprinting and a picture.
Bloody cheeky!

Unfortunately you could potentially be in some trouble, I suggest you get proper legal counsel and verify with the Police Station, not via the number the alleged WPC gave you that they do indeed require you to give yourself up to custody.

Why would he be potentially be in trouble? He hasn't done anything wrong. Just go along, answer their questions truthfully. If its a handwritten letter then presumably the handwriting won't match.

When its all sorted, go and kick your mate in the balls. Hard.

Why don't YOU phone the police station yourself, NOT the number you was given by the person on the other end of the phone, but your local police station and get them to confirm it was legit.

if they have asked you to come down then they are being half nice...you may aswell go down and just tell them what happened.
if it was something to worry about then they wouldn't have asked you to come down....they would have taken you themselves.

Regardless, the potential is there. What if his friend denies his involvement? or the girl in question says he has some gripe against her.

You do not know what the Police know, what information they will act upon and what the outcome will be.

If you think that the Police will go to any great length to do handwriting comparisons etc, then you've been watching too much CSI.

It is more likely that they will decide that either he is telling the truth, or if not they will give him an official caution, hence the potential for being in trouble.

To stop any of that, he should have a solicitor present at the interview.

In any event, like ahlecks said he will be arrested/swabbed/fingerprinted as a matter of course.

OP is a fail...

Seriously, what is it with posts nowadays asking for advice on the most simplest things that require nothing more than common sense?
